Taking a small little break from work / coding.

The great thing about TaskManager on Windows 8, in my opinion, was the amount of USEFUL information both in the specific and general sense.
Application Processes color coding based on work load, memory utilizations, Core/Thread workload intensity. I loved that stuff about Windows 8.

But as much as I hate to admit it, I was trying to find things about Windows 8 they had actually did well in my opinion. This "TaskManager' unfortunately isn't that unique, yet still a good evolution of what we have been used to in the old system.

There are plenty of TaskManager-like applications that Windows 8 could be argued to have borrowed features itself from. There is nothing wrong with these programs per-se, however, ShadowAdmin's goal is to create a unified system of management for the end-user. Shadow's TM will simply be a tab (barring any for seen extraneous CPU performance issues) or a launch-able Window available to anyone as long as they have .NET framework up to date essentially. Much of the core functionality will be identical, but the art style will probably be less artsy. I have no artistic talent really.

I may not have a concept yet drawn up to show you, but the motto I have been designing this stuff by is, "how easy for users to actually "use", can I make the most complicated functions in Windows. That also means, how advanced can I make the tools we need and use in daily lives or for work, then also make them extremely easy to find/use.

I don't know why Microsoft/Apple's design team thinks the way they do, but it doesn't make much sense to me sometimes.
At some point this happened:
Pretty > Simple > Smart > Functional > Time

The most basic features of Windows actually take measurable clicks/time now (Windows 8.)

Logging off or shutting down for example... ...I unfortunately have very little time to waste. What once was nearly instantaneous, is now cumbersome at 2560x1600 resolution and no touch screen.

Therefore, my program is built around the opposite.

In Windows 8.1: Start+X to bring up the right-click menu. > U > U

Reminds me of XPs way of just hitting Start+U to shutdown.

That is the way to do it quickly in Windows 8.1, but I understand what you mean. Some people just prefer a quick way with the mouse and don't want to take unnecessary time to learn new shortcuts. Like you said, a touchscreen with Windows 8/8.1 would be really nice, but the price definitely outweighs the need for one. tongue.gif

It isn't picking up my Memory Modules. Specs are in my sigrig.

Edit:
Also, after you refresh the name of the rig on the Network Information loads in the wrong spot.

Thanks JRuxGaming, that was a hell of an odd bug to work out. Suffice to say Windows internal class for Physical Memory identification needs some dire work. I will have to look at other APIs. CPU-ID comes to mind but costs 1200$ for a license.

With that said, I have re-written the entire project!

I am spending so much time on Hardware Info gathering, and really, while it is a piece of the puzzle, would much rather actually work on the administration side of things.

Releasing Project v0.0.8!

Screenshots, Download, Release Notes are in main!

That is a lot of work you have put into it over, was this one day? Also, Open Hardware Monitor picks up my Memory, have you tried that yet?

Edit: Also, the Debug Window shows this:

Hahaha, yeah you caught me. I have been looking at Open HW Monitors Source which is huge. Integrating it is no single day's work. That's not even using it. So likely for me a day or two of just implementing the Open HW monitor just for memory information? Probably not, I would have to change design paths and fully integrate Open HW Monitor itself. Which is a hell of an option.

However, it does look like it will do the job.

I appreciate the Debug Memory info dump, I will fix it right away smile.gif

Version 0.1.1
  • Fixed a few typos.
  • Fixed a LocSecurity Policy error. Should not have been erroring out, giving a File Not Found exception.
  • Converted to the build to 64-bit, to aid stop some of the quirky Windows functionality being called by a 32-bit application on a 64-bit system.
