New water cooler, but my CPU idle temperature is high. - Page 2

If you're checking temps through the bios, im almost positive that the cpu temp reported in bios is actually the socket temp; the air that is trapped beneath the cpu within the socket so that isn't entirely accurate. Download a program called coretemp, or any other cpu temperature monitoring program as I can't think of the other right now redface.gif

**Seeing as you've checked load under prime 95 you probably already have a temp monitor program redface.gif . As the other have said, a thin and well spread quality paste should help with temps.

Hey, thanks for the reply. I just checked RealTemp and it says it shows like four different temps ( which I assume is for each core? ) According to RealTemp my highest idle temp was 34 C and my lowest was 28C with an average distance to TJ max ( don't know what that is ) around 76. I guess you're right about the socket temp. And is 42C idle for socket temp normal?

42c sounds normal for socket temp, my 4670k under an H80i shows a 45c temp (socket temp) in bios. Yes realtemp will show the temp for each invdividual core, normal variance between coolest to hottest core is ~5 to 6c so that seems normal. Better TIM that is well applied should help drop your temps some more.
