Hi, welcome to OCN mate!
Well, you have to consider that OC can be made quite easily on booth Asus MB: first you have to choose a big case (look at my NZXT
biggrin.gif
) because maybe in the future you will add extra fans or extra radiators or change MB; is clear that you have to decide what kind of OC will be done....will u use only water or will u plan to use nitrogen? If extreme OC is your idea go for Extreme edition!!!!
I have just assembled my rig with Maximus VI Formula and i'm suuuuper happy with it!

Hope to see some pics of your rig

You may have right... i like extreme more since i have money to it too

i would personlly go for the fromula...and yes you can tri sli on z87 on both extream and formula x8x4x4...thats how they going to be config, the exteam can do a 8x16x8 config...dual sli both can do x8x8 .on the other hand i find the formula much better looking and it has audio quality much better than most sound cards...anyhoo if i were to do try sli i would much rather take a 2011 socket and get x16 on all pci lanes...
i find no real life application for extream to be honest it was made for ln2 overclocks...so formula gets my vote casuse you will get similar clocks on water and air on both boards

going to get same clocks with a h110 either way...but im all over the sound 120 snr on its discrete sound card...m.s.i own world record in anycase for z87 and tri and quad sli you will only get full bandwidth on 2011...but i do find dual sli more feasible than tri or quad sli...only differences you'll see is less usage while running certain applications...anyhoo im not here to choose for you lol:rolleyes:...o.c key you get with the extream is nice thou...wifi card and ROG connect comes with both boards thou

I've not long got my Maximus VI Formula with a 4770k and it is amazing OC's really well has plenty of features too boot and if your comparing Extreme vs Formula I was in the same boat and went with the Formula for 2 reasons.

1. Built in water blocks, I was not planning on do Nitrogen so the Formula suited my cooling system perfectly.
2. The armor has saved me from one screw driver slip so far.

But your call depending on what your doing.

maximus vi extreme - THE extreme overclockers motherboard to get if you will be watercooling or LN2 cooling. More features than any other z87 board on the market right now, packed with anything and everything you will ever need to take your performance to the next level. PCI-E on/off switch for quick switching from 4 to 3 to 2 to one way sli/crossfire. extreme digi+ engine III giving stable clean power to components on the board. vast array of ROG features such as rog connect, and the ROG overclock panel for quick voltage changes during benching.

maximus vi formula - The gamers motherboard, packed with lots of nice features, not quite as many as the extreme, basically everything considered "extreme" has been cut off, but asus continues to price it at extreme levels. *disclaimer* the next couple sentences are purely opinion based* - Cheapo plastic shroud put on top of the motherboard to make 12 year old fangirls squeel in glee, looks like a cheesy space bunker wall ripped out of the original Halo game. The included waterblock channel was made out of aluminum, and anodized, and asus swear up and down that it will not have any compatibility issues with copper waterblocks if you choose to water cool it, but tests have shown no matter how well it does, even the slightest scratch when installing a fitting into and boom, galvanic corrosion - ruined water blocks, fittings, motherboard heatsink, and possibly pumps due to clogging from debris. *end disclaimer* - still has nice overclocking features and gaming features for every day use, better than most motherboards out there atm, even if it is trying to get you focused on the plastic shroud and built in watercooling features.

maximus vi hero - The intro gamers/overclockers motherboard, everything you would want from a ROG motherboard, the looks, the features, the quality. While not as extreme as the extreme motherboard, this motherboard has virtually everything you would need for non super extreme LN2 overclocking. two way sli, three way crossfire compatible, extreme digi+ III engine for heavy overclocking just like the extreme motherboard. While not having as many features for heavy duty overclocking as the extreme board, it comes with everything you need if you are the average gamer/overclocker. On top of having the badass ROG look. And this board wont kill your wallet. I personally own one and have a 5ghz 4770k in it. Worth every penny.

All just my personal opinions really, hope any of it helps.

For you i would say go for the Extreme motherboard, very much worth its weight in gold. Probably avoid the formula board. Hero if you dont want super extreme overclocking for liquid nitrogen, but still want 2 way sli and the awesome looks of the maximus boards.
