Where to Start and Pitfalls to Avoid when Modding Games?

Thread Starter
Hi,

I am currently transtioning between console and PC gaming, part of the reason for this, and building my new rig was modding games. I'm hoping to mod Skyrim as my first modding adventure, nexusmods seems to be the way to go as far as I can ascertain. I've done some looking around and it seems I should be able to do it. I am just wondering if there are any tips about moding or pitfalls I could easily overlook which may come back to bite me. I've seen posts about saves being unusable after adding and removing mods (this seemed to be Skyrim specific and not the norm) and understand load order is important. The concensus seems to be set up the mods you want before playing properly then have a test period for any new mods added later on to avoid lost/unusable game saves.

I will not be insulted if you assume my stupidity knows no bounds, it is most likely the safest course of action.

If there is already a thread covering modding for begginers please feel free to send me in its direction, with some derision for my inability to find it (I have looked I promise).

Thanks in advance for any help!

there is no limit on the amount of saves you have so just save your game a lot without overwriting. If you have a problem with a mod then go to a previous save.
