Looking to get a new phone (verizon user, android devices)

Thread Starter
Hi all,

As the title states, I'm looking to get a new phone. I currently have the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, which is essentially the google branded Galaxy S2. I like the phone, but its nearly two years old, showing some age, and I'm ready for a new one. Here are the things that I'm looking for in a new phone:

-Small:
I don't need a tiny device, but the size of my current phone (in a case) is larger than I would like. I love the size of the iPhone 5.

-Caseless:
I would love to use a phone that doesn't require a case to prevent serious damage. I'm going to use a screen protector, but I hate big bulky cases, and really want a phone that doesn't need one.

-Verizon
Needs to be available for Verizon.

So there you have it, any suggestions? I've seen the motoX but wasn't too impressed. What about the other mini and small phones from Samsung and HTC? Also, been tempted by the Nexus 3 due to the gear. What's the general consensus on the gear for that device? Can I text from the smart watch?

Thanks,
GA

I wouldn't buy the note 3 solely for the galaxy gear, as it hasn't received that much praise from the media and may lose its novelty quickly ( I think you can dictate text messages, though). If you're looking for a small phone, I can't image why you would go for a note 3 anyway. What about the moto X put you off, btw? It's probably the best performaning android phone you'd get at that size. Also, have you considered the iPhone at all, given you love the form factor?

Plus Galaxy S3/S4 are getting their 4.3 update that enable them to work with Galaxy gear as well. So Gear won't be a Note 3 exclusive device for much longer.

@GrandArchitect As far as a Android phone on Verizon goes, I'd recommend a Moto X right now because it gets the fastest update out of any OEM phones and is quite small for a 4.7" phone. It won't top any benchmarks but performs pretty smooth based on reviews I seen and the hours of experience with a display model in store.

Moto X have a better overall SOC & should run a lot smoother(because it have the least OEM bloatware ) than the GS4 Mini & HTC One Mini.

As far as Size goes
Moto X 129.3 x 65.3 x 10.4 mm (5.09 x 2.57 x 0.41 in) 4.7" 720*1280 display
S4 Mini 124.6 x 61.3 x 8.9 mm (4.91 x 2.41 x 0.35 in) 4.3" 540*960 display
One Mini 132 x 63.2 x 9.3 mm (5.20 x 2.49 x 0.37 in) 4.3" 720*1280 display
Iphone 5S 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm (4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 in) 4.0" 640*1136 display
