Dubai wins the 2020 Expo bid!

Happy for my country!

Sources are all over the internet, will link asap!

Sorry if this is in the wrong place

R&D and the level of technology and infrastructure across the Middle East, South Asia, and North Africa will all improve. New discoveries and innovations brought to the table may shape the future of the entire world! This is great smile.gif

Peng Xiongji, general manager, Huawei UAE:
“Complemented by a strong government mandate for encouraging technology innovation on the local level, an event like the Dubai Expo 2020 will not only accelerate the deployment of ICT infrastructure locally, but also open up a host of new multinational investment opportunities as part of that development.”

Samer Abu Ltaif, regional general manager, Microsoft Gulf:

“It comes as no surprise that Dubai has won its bid for Expo 2020. As a city that is built on innovation, creativity and originality, Dubai embodies the historic spirit of the Expo, and under the theme of “Connecting minds, Creating the future’ I am certain that the event will bring people together and inspire them to meet, discuss and create.”

Jonathan Labin, head of the Middle East, Africa & Pakistan, Facebook:

“All the hard work and perseverance finally paid off and we are delighted with Dubai’s win of the Expo 2020 bid. The people of the UAE, both nationals and expats, were all united behind Dubai and expressed their support perfectly well, especially on Facebook. It is yet another tale of success to be told about Dubai, and I am sure the planning that will lead up to Expo 2020 will be as exciting for everyone in the country.”

The Expo is one of the biggest events for countries held every five years. Dubai winning the bid for the expo signals a historic event where Dubai is acknowledged as a center for development and a landmark for the world to marvel at. The Expo brings economic prosperity to every region and country it touches and will improve infrastructure, technology, and ideas on a global scale.

Dubai
UAE has selected the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”. In today’s highly interconnected world, a renewed vision of progress and development based on shared purpose and commitment is key. While a single human mind, an individual country, or a specific community is both unique and remarkable, it is by working collaboratively that we truly advance.
A World Expo in Dubai in 2020 would be the first to be held in the MENA & SA (Middle East and North Africa & South Asia) region. As the global community faces ever more complex, and increasingly interconnected challenges, the links between people, societies and ideas have never been more important.
On 27 November 2013, Dubai won the right to host the expo 2020.

• From London in 1851 to Shanghai in 2010, heritage and legacy have underpinned the World Expo concept, and the tradition for invention, innovation and the creation of enduring technological, architectural and cultural footprints continues today.

World Expo 2020 is the world’s largest and most prestigious exhibition, and Dubai is bringing the event, for the very first time, to the Menasa (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) which will expand new development horizons for this region with a population exceeding two billion.

Except for the fact that oil is scarce in Dubai and they have been dependent on tourism and investments for many years now!

If by investments you mean Abu Dhabi's oil money they get regularly, then yes. Guess why AD is still the capital... wink.gif
