HP "Automatic Repair" endless loop

My girlfriend's laptop is having some issues, it's and HP SleekBook (Model 15-b142dx) and she said it froze on her one night, so she held down the power button to shut it off, and then tried restarting, but there's an endless loop of the HP Automatic Repair. My take on this is that I'm guessing there is corrupt data. I know in Windows 7 you could just toss in the Startup Disk, and Startup Repair would do it's thing. But, I'm new to Windows 8, and I'm finding around a million different answers to this. What should I do, in steps maybe, of how to fix this? All the results I'm getting are overwhelming. Keep in mind I have no Windows 8 disk as the computer does not have an optical drive. Can someone please help?

If a copy of windows 8 is required you should be able to load it onto a bootable USB.

Will Windows 8 still launch Startup Repair like 7?
