Around $300 budget: Justifying the $100 for 290 vs the 770. - Page 8

I am kinda sick of the mantle arguement. How do you know it will do anything for "JUST AMD" and wont be for all cards. Also how do you know it will actually improve things. Seems to be alot of shots in the wind lately about it. Remember the hype they put on bulldozer... I sure do. In my opinion i would geta 280 or 770 oc it a little and call it a day.

the 780 Ti is powerful enough to push the limit of 3GB, especially in SLI. This is why in higher rez, you'll start giving up some settings. With the Titan, no worries.

Even as a single card I've seen a 4GB 770 hit 2.3GB VRAM usage in BF4 while still averaging around 60fps, but yeah that's it. People say don't get a 4GB 770 because it is a waste and it can't use 4GB (and yeah it wouldn't be able to reach 4GB usage and be playable as a single card) but that is a silly way of looking at it, you get a 4GB version in case you just need that bit more than 2GB. Also it shows Nvidia should've equipped it with 3GB in the first place. Luckily in the UK now you can get hold of 4GB versions for hardly any more than the 2GB versions (around £270) which is just a few pounds more than the good 280x's.

It will be for now. There has been now where near enough time for Nvidia or Intel to incorporate themselves into it. They will and can if they choose. And even for AMD it is only the GCN cards 7XXX and R7/9 only for now as well.

I can't see Nvidia ever using Mantle, that would mean they'd have to adopt AMD's GCN architecture right? I doubt that will happen.

No. From what has been said it would be that Nvidia would have to add a layer for their CUDA in the API.

But how do you know have you seen it in use? I know i haven't. After bulldozer I am now a firm believer of "show me". Just because they put a bunch of hype on something doesn't mean it will work as promised or even good.

But neways the op picked and ordered his card so there is no point in continueing this thread mods need to lock it.

r9 290 is going to be the best value card you ever buy get one that might unlock and your profit will be double.
And mantle of course so OP much win
