Can I connect EK DCP 4.0 to Asus Z87 Pro fan header?

Hi!

I have this waterpump http://www.ekwb.com/shop/pumps-and-accessories/pumps/ek-dcp-series-pumps/ek-dcp-4-0-12v-dc-pump.html
and this motherboard http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z87PRO/

My question is, can I connect the waterpump to the fan header so I can control the pump that will not be at full speed so I can keep the noise down in idle? Will the header be enough or I can fry something by doing so? Now it is noisy at full speed 12v, I want a little more silent rig.

Thanks

the motherboard fan header wouldnt be a good idea. running wise, it will use 18 watts but pulls more at start up. on load it pulls roughly 1.5amp
on top of that, it wont start at less than 8v. was 7v on older models but i dont know why it changed.
if its too loud, decouple it from your case. it isnt a loud pump if its good and decoupled.

Its not that loud but I can heat it working. I have it on a foam+silicone pad so the vibrations are killed. I thought i can put it to 10v so it will be silent, and when I am gaming, I doesnt care about the noise.

I had a DCP 4.0 pump around 3 years ago and it used to start up and run on 5V but only if it was fed from a molex/auxiliary connector. Connected to a Lamptron FC2 (45W per channel) it would occasionally fail to start. It was really quiet at 5V but it also needed to be decoupled.
