Silverlight

Thread Starter
Exactly what is Silverlight?
Yes, I've been to the homepage and found the following:
"Microsoft Silverlight is a powerful tool for creating and delivering rich Internet applications and media experiences on the Web. Silverlight 5 builds on the foundation of Silverlight 4 for building business applications and premium media experiences. Silverlight 5 introduces more than 40 new features, including dramatic video quality and performance improvements as well as features that improve developer productivity." Huh?
Okay. So how, exactly, does this possibly apply to me or millions of other people that use a Microsoft OS?
I've been asking this question ever since Silverlight first appeared.
The only answers I received boiled down to, "Trust MS. They'll never steer you wrong. Bill Gates is God. His will be done! Always do as MS says, lest ye burn forever in the fiery pits of Unix!"
I don't do anything listed under the "explanation" of what Silverlight is supposed to be, so why does MS think I need to waste storage space by installing it?
I'm tired of clicking "Hide Update" for Silverlight every single time I need to install an update I actually have any use for.
"Hide Update" doesn't even work for Silverlight so I shouldn't even bother trying to hide it. Probably because it's a complete program vs. an actual Update.
If you're wondering why I even bother mentioning it, this is why.
Any program that you install that you have no use for, or ever will, introduces the possibility of conflict with programs that you do actually use.
You may think you have a buggy program, but later find, or never even realize, that it's in conflict with some other program you never, ever use. Like Silverlight.
The only fix is to uninstall both and reinstall only the program that you want.
Then later you find that, for example, Silverlight has attached portions of itself to practically everything in your entire system with an unending possibility of future conflict with anything you may wish to install later on.
Now, MS wants me to also install .NET Framework 4.5.1.
I didn't mention this before because I found that it is actually used by AMD videocard drivers, so I won't bother.
Even though .NET Framework is a neverending mass of individual programs that do not replace or update the preceding versions of itself.
It just piles different versions of itself all over your drives wasting God only knows how much space in your system.
The only fix? I'd like to say only erase your drives and reinstall Windows and everything else. But no. Practically every game I've ever installed demands that I install whatever version of .NET Framework was used by the developers when the game was created.
So there is no fix for the umpteen different versions of .NET Framework clogging up your resources.
Get a grip MS! And no, I did NOT mean that, you nerdy perverts!
Go wash your hands and design something better than the infinite, almost, but not quite, exact copies of .NET Framework.
A program that will not waste so much space and carry the possibility of conflict with other programs, which almost certainly do not rely on each and every individual almost-copy of itself.
As for Silverlight, I repeat, "Huh?"

Have you heard of the button called "Enter"?
Very hard to read the crammed post you have there.

Anyways, Silverlight is basically a contender to Flash and HTML5. It is not used in ANYTHING I use personally, but there might be some websites out there I guess.
I got so tired of all the Silverlight crap that I just let it install. Doesn't really do anything to my machines performance.

When it comes to .Net you always want the latest version, as so many games use this and having the latest version can help game performance.
