URGENT INSTALLATION HELP NEEDED

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm building my first pc. My motherboard is the H77M D3H from gigabyte (mATX), and my case is the bitfenix merc alpha. I have lined up all of the motherboard holes to the corresponding case holes but one of the holes has nothing underneath it, i.e. all of the i/o connectors are lined up, the case and mobo are up the right way but there is one motherboard hole that has nothing underneath it but empty space when all the others have lined up perfectly with no extras touching. Should I just leave this empty and carry on? It's 12:30am here and I need to complete this build before 3ish in the morning so PLEASE HELP

Can you provide a picture?

Are you saying that one of the MoBo holes does not have a standoff underneath? Looking at the Gigabyte website picture it looks like the MoBo has 7 holes for mounting (I've never worked with a mATX board so I'm not expert here). I cannot see a good picture or installation guide on the BitFenix site at all to see what the mounting situation looks like (the installation guide really doesn't cover this though maybe what comes with the case is better). If you have six standoffs to install that probably would be sufficient since the standoffs only serve to anchor the board and provide for grounding. The big issue to be concerned about is if there are extra standoffs and they hit a solder joint on the back of the MoBo and short it out. This does not sound like the problem you have.

@Alan G yes that's right there's a lack of standoffs in the case. There are 7 standoff holes on the motherboard but only 6 standoffs in the case. I've connected everything and it seems to be okay (haven't started the system yet) but that one mobo hole has no standoff underneath it, although I think this should be okay as long as I support the board underneath when pushing a component into it.

I was just surprised at the poor documentation (at least on the website). Just for fun, you might want to contact Bitfenix support just to make sure that your case is not missing a standoff. The unit should work just fine as you've built it.
