Upgrade CPU or GPU?

Hello people, i'm like a new poster here and i come to find some directions of what to do first like many anothers.

First my rig:

Phenom x4 965@ 3.7ghz
8gb Ram ddr3
Gtx 560 non-ti
Corsair cx500 Bronze
1920x1080 full hd

So I like to play BF3 multiplayer and yet not acquired bf4, but most probably will get in few time. My CPU already use 80-90% in this game at multiplayer 64 players and im worried if gonna be smart change for a stronger GPU like R9 280x and the CPU will make the game worse than with gtx 560 since This CPU will bottleneck the card and in this game the bottleneck probably gonna be the biggest of my games.

If i not change the GPU first i'm in doubt about get a Intel i5 4670k combo or FX 8350, since my main use is gaming, and rare times i can encode some videos.

The CPU combo gonna be Intel i5 4670k + asrock z87 extreme 4/Asus z87 Plus or AMD Fx 8350+ Asus m5a99fx pro r2.0. Both combos gonna cost me around same thing U$ 500-550.

The GPU r9 280x is around same price or U$480-550.

I dont play another online games, the most games i play out of BF series is single player campaing games, like sleeping dogs, far cry 3, batman etc.

So like im in doubt what step make, i want to hear some tips.

Thanks, and sorry for my english.

Games are still more GPU bound than CPU even at the moment. The CPU you have will suffice and therefore choose the GPU option. If you are going to go AMD and get the 290, get one with an aftermarket cooler. If you go the Nvidia path get a GTX 770. You'll be fine at 1080p. thumb.gif

What motherboard do you own and what country are you in? The R9 280X is $300 in the US, pretty big jump to $550.

I'm not from U.S, and that's the price here, the gtx 770 only the 2gb version is around same price of 280x. I dont trust 2gb vram since bf4 already break that wall.

My mobo is Asus m4a785td-v evo, its am3 so if i change CPU i need change mobo too.

def, upgrade that gpu first. both 770 and 280x would be very significant upgrade.

I'd go for an R9-280x as well, the GTX 770 is around 100 bucks more.
