Don't buy the new motherboard before you're absolutely sure it's busted. My first guess was a short somewhere, which is common first thing after a re-build.

Replaced the mobo. Also bought new ram and tested both old a new sticks. Works just fine after everything was put back together. Apparently I shorted the mobo or something

Glad to hear it worked out, but I would say it's likely your old mobo is fine. Shorts like that are almost always due to some tiny stray bit of metal temporarily causing unintended contact somewhere. The shutdown is the computer's boot procedure stopping any permanent damage from occurring.
