Velociraptor Worth It?

Thread Starter
My desktop is being upgraded at the moment and I was just thinking I should do something about my aging RAID 0 array, my desktop is run 24/7 and rarely gets shut down, so boot times really are a non-issue to me, getting an SSD of around 512gb for my programs/games is still over $300 as far as I can tell, but Newegg has the 600gb Velociraptor on special for about $130 and I am thinking it might give me a slight boost in speed when it comes to loading games and programs and such without the gigantic pricetag (Not expecting SSD speeds, just better than my raid 0...)

Then I'll convert my Raid 0 to a Raid 1 and store my important crap on it

Any other suggestions welcome of course..

where are you storing your 'important crap' at the moment? On the 2x500 RAID0 array in sig?

why not buy a smaller SSD on which is the OS & frequently used apps & the infrequent apps on the HDD?

Cause every app is "frequently used"

And I have the 2x 500gb RAID 0 + 3 2TB drives...

I have 2 256gb SSDs in my laptop, which doesnt have anywhere near the amount of crap on it and I have issues with HDD space running out constantly (albeit due to the SSDs being split into 2 drives vs 1 unified drive) This is why I simply know dealing with less than 512 is probubly not an option for me
