slid 8800gtx - Page 4

You actually have the nerve to quote an inquirer article?

"While I was not able to test this personally, several people I trust have reported problems"

(From the article)

The Xbit labs article inquirer is basing this on wasn't even referring to SLI!

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...-games_27.html

"To our surprise, the GeForce 8800 GTX refused to work on certain mainboards. It started up without problems on an ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe (based on the ATI CrossFire Xpress 3200 chipset), but would not work at all on such mainboards as Intel Desktop Board D925XCV (Intel 925X, BIOS 0477, mainboard revision 1.0) and ABIT AN8 32X (nForce4 SLI X16, BIOS 13, mainboard revision 1.0). It was indeed queer with the latter mainboard because the graphics card would not be recognized by the system even if installed into the secondary PCI Express x16 slot with a GeForce 7600 GT in the primary one. ABIT claims they’ve found no incompatibility between the AN8 32X and the GeForce 8800 GTX. Perhaps there were some problems with the particular samples of the graphics card and mainboard."

Where does it mention only SLI not working?

And where in the overclockers UK article does it even list the issue?

I think it would be better to spend $600 on upgrading your CPU/Motherboard/RAm and $600 on a single GTX than on two. You could still run everything on max, and you wouldn't have such a bottlenecking issue.

Robilar, in the Overclockers UK article it says the following:
Quote:
Note: This card is 275mm in length so make sure it fits in your case! Also the cards require PCI-E x16 slots, they will not function in a x8 slot so for SLi you need dual x16 mainboard. Finally 500W minimum for PSU and 600W+ is recommended.
Also, tigerdirect has a very similar warning, this listed under minimum requirements:
Quote:
PCI Express-compliant motherboard with one vacant PCI Express x16 slot
Also note that the quote from tigerdirect was taken verbatim from the BFG-Tech Website. I stand by what I have said above, while you may be correct in some cases Robilar, that the 8 series might work in an 8X PCI-E slot, I would NEVER suggest purchasing an SLI motherboard that only utilizes two 8X slots, because of *possible* hardware incompatibilities.
