Asus HD6870 reviving it trough Heat

A year ago i bought a HD6870 from a friend, and about 2 month while i was playing Call of Duty 4 the card locked up and i had to hard reset my computer. After that my computer could not get past the Windows 7 welcome screen, also the welcome screen graphics were all scrambled, like lines on screen, weird colours on the screen etc...
Well after that i thought my card was dead and nothing i could do with it, so i went on to buy a more recent card, unfortunately the new card came with some problems and i had to RMA it, that was about half and a month ago.

Well 2 days ago, i still haven't recieved my RMA card and decided to try fiddle with my broken card, opened it up and cleaned the old thermal paste, applied new thermal paste and closed it again, tried it on my computer and the result was the same no screen past the welcome screen. After some research the problem was very similar to the problem that Nvidia 8800 series had.
The solution for that was to put the card in the oven for a few minutes and it would solve the problem.
I went on to search if anyone has done it to any more recent cards on either Nvidia/AMD and couldn't find any information on it anywere.

So decided to try it just for the heck of it, i had nothing to lose if the card died complety, picked up my card disassemble it again cleaned it, pre-eaten oven at 200º and put my card in for exactly 7 minutes. Assemble it, and went on to test it again, and my card had revived and it's working well just like before. biggrin.gif

I wanted to share this information here so that people can find some information on this, because i couldn't find any topics about this anywhere on the internet, only 8800gtx stuff
Please leave some comments, or another cases that u seen that are similar to this one.

Also sorry for my English. (Not my main language!)

TL:DR - My card broke, put it on a oven at 200º for about 7 Minutes and that solved it.

That's awesome, I'll have to try this if any of my cards stop working.

I know people did something like this for old Xbox 360s, but I never knew it'd work for a GPU.

I think it only works on cards that have problems loading things to the memory, it's a specific problem, so it might not work on complety dead cards like burn gpu's and stuff.
