If only Sony would release PS4 hardware in form of laptop/desktop package..... that would just be killing.

Considering how current games are made... You bet it would be hugely CPU starved.

Yeah and you have people applauding intel for not pushing cpu tech "because they are plenty powerful" when every other MMO out there is massively (pun intended) cpu bound.

But is that bad hardware or software? I would be quite surprised if there's no optimization option available.

A mix of both but hardware (clients and networks) is clearly not enough when it comes to thousands of players interacting in close proximity- there's a reason the most state of the art game out there (Battlefield) is doing only 64 players max.

If we're talking multithreading, odds are it's technically the fault of the software, primarily since it's just much more of a challenge to code for multiple cores fundamentally. I've got a bit of programming knowledge, and if you're not specifically coding your entire pipeline to be parallelized from the get-go, your entire software system is highly liable to screw up when you try to make it run on several threads at a time. And that's not even taking into account the issue of making a fully MT workload instead of having one big thread (core physics) and tons of lightweight threads.

Well BF4 is fully multithreaded. Even with mantle and at this cpu evolution pace, we won't be having real massive games without performance issues (PS2 comes to mind) for at least 10 more years it seems,I hope i am wrong here. You can never have enough power at an enthusiast level, that's why I sigh when I see people in forums like this one applauding this tactic. For the average user that wants to browse, use word or do video stuff, sure and I really fully understand why intel is doing this (and why AMD pretty much agrees), it makes perfect sense from a financial point. But to say we have enough power, well no. Stagnation is one of the recipes of failure.

that is why tech like mantle is of paramount importance... if you want to push towards 4k and VR and i think we should tbh you will have every bit of efficiency and having unused iGPU on ether A10s or iten i7s even with strongest Graphics cards i think is very stupid and most importantly very wasteful.

I want all games and software to stop being limiting and unoptimized... software has to go that way, every GPU chip has to be used and every thread.
