[Build Log] Project Magis: The Caselabs S5 build I'm giving away - Page 29

Not surprising but this looks incredible!

I can't help but cringe when seeing that USB3 connector. Not like there's a ton that can be done about it - and it applies to every single build I've done (with the exception of those having a 90-degree connector of course). I feel like I can hear the plastic connector on the motherboard crying out to me in pain. redface.gif

I sure wish all MB manufacturers would use 90-degree connectors for that.

As expected based on your other build... colors, component selection, sleeving, etc... flawless. thumb.gif

Some kid is gonna get the sweetest rig... it had better make a crapload for the school or I'm going to be pissed I didn't catch a plane out there just to bid on this and take it home.

Ya I really wanted to do something about the USB 3, but the way it is implemented makes it basically impossible to sleeve. Honestly I think people won't notice it behind the purty 24 pin. Just kinda fades in the background.

BASH is coming up in 2 weeks! I'm stoked. All I really have left to do is drain the loop in install the 4th stick of memory, and then do final cable management and sound dampening foam. I've done most of the main software work.

Another thing that's exciting: I jumped on a 4670k a few days ago that was $189 on newegg, and I just ordered an ASUS impact that was about $20 off. I'll be working on my own S3 build this summer that I'm taking to college, should be fun.

Massive congrats on the build.
Everything's come together so well.
Hope that it does well at the fund raiser thumb.gif

Too late for this build I would think, but there are a few options for the USB 3.0 header cable.
This is one of them, I think they also sell 3.0 cable and plugs n pins for each end.
OR splice addition wire into this before sleeving and you got a custom length low profile header cable wink.gif

Here is something else you can try if you are looking for an option. I'll probably do this again for my current build. Wasn't that tough.

Actually, I had already checked out your guide. Unfortunately, with the S5's included USB 3 module, the 2 cables split apart considerably once they reach the hub, so that method would not work.

Thank you SO much for that link! You just solved the problem I was having in my Compact Splash case. Too much stress on the USB header so now I can loop it behind the motherboard tray, connect the current one into the new one, and then wrap it around to the motherboard connector, awesome!

Sorry for the OT, looking good by the way thumb.gif As for pictures, take it outside on a partly clouded day and take some pictures, they should turn out really nicely even with a cellphone like an iPhone.

Everything is pretty much put together. Drained the system to install the new ram and memory waterblock top. I've also installed a decent amount of sound dampening foam on the panels.

One thing I'm running into software wise - the graphics card is not running at full load. In benchmarks it's maxing out close to 1090 mhz. Any ideas for fixing this? In Nvidia control panel I set the benchmarks to prefer maximum power, but it didn't change anything.

Also, I might be getting one more etching job done on one of the side windows.
