Ok, because i am afraid i may end up in a situation where it could happen more than it should.

So what do i need to protect my computer? Is it a Surge protector or what?

You need a UPS, preferably an online/true sine one.

I like the Emerson/Liebert ones, but they're also very expensive new. TrippLite and APC make good ones.

Will a surge protector be sufficient? The power goes out rarely.

Let me rephrase: It will only go off if to many eletronics are turned on at same time.
So it is by chance of this happening that it goes off.

So there can go 7 days without it going off, maybe a month.

If you're losin' power once a day you got bigger problems to be concerned with than hurtin your puter!

As was mentioned earlier a UPC is what you will need to protect your hardware, A surge protector only provides protection from over-current or otherwise a "surge". By connecting your PC to a UPC you gain the benefit of having enough time to turn off your computer normally if you loose power as the UPC stores enough energy to allow the user to save their work and shut-down.
