Can't get 4670k at 4.2ghz stable

Thread Starter
I have tried oc'ing my 4670k to 4.2ghz and I am having a awful time of getting it stable when playing 3D games - I get crashes where I have to restart the computer or errors saying the program has stopped working. I have screenshots of my settings - I am running a ASUS Z87 Deluxe with 16gb (2x8gb) Kingston Beast 2400 MHz

If I haven't included a setting in the screen shots- the settings are left to auto or default, and here's my settings below:

.

I have noticed if I lowered my ram speed/timings it is a little bit more stable, did I get a crummy CPU? I doubt the Z87 Deluxe isn't a bad overclocker - not a ROG board but still not bad I hope. Thanks for any any and all help!

Drop your ram to 1600 cas 9 1.5v, and set your uncore ratio (may be cache ratio in an ASUS bios) to 34. You can find a good deal of info regarding overclocking in the Haswell threads in the cpu section.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-thread-with-statistics

Once you've done that try and boot with 42x multi and 1.25v and increase voltage in small steps if necessary.

I dropped my memory and cache ratio and now no problems.... will try full stability testing later. I'll read the thread to see if there is a way to have a memory OC (even though it doesn't help much). Thanks. +rep.

There is a voltage to help ram stability, can't remember at the moment because I'm still fiddling with my 4670k. I can get my ram to post @ 2133 with no issues at 1.55v, I can probably go much higher just need more volts. Also higher ram overclocks/clocks will possibly require more vcore as well, the biggest issue apparently is the uncore holding people back. You should be alright getting the memory back up as you test for clock stability on the cpu. Gl thumb.gif

**You may want to look at the Gigabyte Z87 overclocking guide thread, there should be some sections that will help with getting your memory straightened out.
