FX 9370 W/C Build.

Thread Starter
First time posting on this forum, after many yrs of lurking around unregistered!

Thought I might share my latest build. Bar the motherboard, it was centered around being "conservative" price wise, but be high end all the same.

I just love the ASUS ROG boards, not just the bells and whistles, but they've always been good to me. So despite not wanting to get the most expensive of a given component. This was the one exception!

CPU: FX 9370

Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair V Formula Z

RAM: 8GB Trident X 2133Mhz

GPU: Gigabyte R9-290X

SSD: Samsung 256GB 840 EVO

Power Supply: Seasonic M12 II 850w

Case: Lancool (Lian Li) PC-K9 WX (modified)

Radiators: Front: alphacool UT60 240mm Side: Alphacool ST30 240mm

CPU Block: Original: ALphacool XP3 Plexi (Fail!!) Replacement: Swifteck Appogee XT

GPU block: EK Full cover Copper

Pump: Laing D5 T

Fans:

Front Radiator: Push - 140mm Lian li. Pull - 120mm Scythe Gentle Typhoon 1600RPM
Side Radiator: 120mm Gentle Typhoon 1600rpm
Rear Exhaust: 120mm Gentle Typhoon 1600rpm
VRM: Arctic 80mm PWM

Case Mods.. A side mount, Hinged Radiator

This was inspired by the new Lian Li PC10-N Case

http://www.lian-li.com/en/dt_portfolio/pc-10n/

I really liked this idea, because I wanted a more compact, mod tower case, but wanted as much Radiator real estate as I could muster.

in a mid tower, This normally means a radiator externally mounted on top.

However, I couldn't get this case in Australia, and I didn't really like the bare alum interior. So.. call in a cheaper alternative, the Lancool PC-K9 WX

.. and 2x Gate hinges, a jigsaw, some angle, and a rivet gun, and some paint

And we have a side mounted, hinged radiator! rolleyes.gif

You could almost say it's redundant, with it in this current position, as you could almost squeeze the motherboard in behind it, but it really didn't take to long to knock up, and it's certainly quite workable in there with it swung open.

modifying the case window was more a case of cutting a section out of it, than cutting a hole.

I added some extra mounting holes for the top section

Front Radiator:

The front rad just squeezed into the cap after removing the HDD cage. I utlized the stock front 140mm fans (for now, anyway) , with 120mm adapators, modified to act as a shroud/reducer.

Airflow

Some will notice this has all the air from the radiators pumped into the case.. Correct, The main path of flow from the radiators is out through the vented rear expansion slots. and judging by the air temperature coming out of the top case fan under heavy load testing some is flowing up this way as well.

Pump mount

"Dodgy but silent!"

Res I've had lying around for years. The fill port mounted up though the top, as can be seen in other images.

VRM Cooling is via the 80mm Arctic PWM, mounted to the CPU block. This is under CPU temp control. and spends most of its time doing about 200rpm. Under 100% load it ramps up

Finito

.. Well, mostly. I'd really like to get rid of that horrible elbow I had to put in last minute. and some tubing over the pump leads.

I shall post some thermal testing results shortly.
