770 4gb SLI VS 780 for Surround

Thread Starter
Over the past year I have slowy upgraded and changed my build around and one thing led to another and I ended up with a 1080p surround setup with two 2gb 670's in sli. Now I am noticing that I have been hitting my vram limits and and thinking an upgrade may be necessary. But I am torn. I could go with a 780 or get a 4gb 770 and save for a little then get another to sli with. I think the 780 in sli would be out of the question for quite awhile. I know as a rule of thumb you should never build with plans to go with sli immediately but I am afraid if I get a 780 3gb then that might end up hitting the vram limits in the near future. Anyone have any advice or suggestions to help me out with my future purchase?

Also, before it gets asked. No, I do not wish to get an AMD card. I have in the past and without starting any arguments I wish to remain on the green team. smile.gif

You wont hit any Vram limits with a single 780 and decent framerates. Vram limitations with 780 SLI is a possibility in the future, but if its going to be a while you could possible upgrade to Maxwell by then. Unless you are one of those guys that keeps his GPUs over a few generations. Gameplay smoothness factor would go to the 780 as the 384bit bus will help at surround resolutions .

Thank you for the information. I am definitely leaning towards the 780. Just need some assurance tongue.gif I haven't looked into it yet, but is the 770 like the 6xx series cards with 4gb of ram. I remember reading something about those cards were not able to completely take advantage of much more than 2gb. If that is true would it be the same deal with the 770 4gb?
