I'm currently in the market for 3 monitors (2 for office/general usage, 1 for gaming/general usage), and as I understand the Acer H226 and S236 are the best monitors by far under $200. They don't have PWM which can be really annoying in some unlucky people I guess, not sure, and have same color, quality, input lag/response as the Dell S series, and similar ghosting but you can fix it more on the Acer's. And I guess the ultrasharps are good but they are quite dull compared to S series due to the thick matte coating.

I linked the H236HL though, because it seems to be on even more special, it's $129 shipped, vs the S236 being $150 shipped, $20 difference for basically an uglier stand/bezel and lack of PWM. And then the H226 has no PWM but it's more expensive ATM and only 22".

I'm definitely about to purchase this... curious for a little feedback from you guys, but this seems to me to be the best monitor deal anywhere right now under $200.

I've got an S2340L, U2312HM, and VS238 in front of me right now, the u2312hm is definitely duller (grayer blacks, more washed our colors most noticeable in bluer sky, sandier sand in s2340l). S2340L seems to have more ghosting in a synthetic test but i never notice ghosting ever in real usage and still seems very unnoticeable...

Sorry I really am not too knowledgeable on monitors guys redface.gif

quick question since i read your other post about the dell U2312HM

if the U2312HM and this monitor was the same price, what would you get?

becuase it seems like u highly like the U2312HM but the only downside to it for you is the price of the dell.

because im also deciding between U2312HM and this acer monitor

i dont know, couldn't tell you since havent seen h236hl. I am assuming it's basically an s2340l and slightly better.

in which case... i mean first glossy vs matte is a big part of it. Watching like that youtube video I made for example, holy crap you see a big reflection on the s2340l and there's no lights or anything in my room, i specifically painted it and designed it to be neutral (notice the neutral gray paint, for example, as well as window placement). But even though it's very noticeable... i really dont notice it. I know that sounds stupid, but i look at the s2340l, theres a big huge reflection on it, but for whatever reason i dont even see it. I dont know if it just doesnt bother me or what, but i do know it bothers some people (though not most, i think).

Then the matte u2312hm, people say it's fuzzy, its grainy, but it looks just as sharp as the S2340L. In fact the lagom testing has a sharpness test, which I do in the youtube review, and both monitors do the sharpness test pretty much the same (er maybe just 'adequate', since it's more of a pass/fail test rather than better/worse test). I dont really see it as grainy or fuzzy, even side by side by these 2 glossy, no-AG coating monitors.

I believe really, the U2312HM is probably better for gaming since it has slightly better response, ghosting, and stand than the s2340L, but I think the h236HL has a way to 'address' ghosting/response time with some sort of overdrive while the s2340L doesnt. As I understand, the H236HL is really the same thing as the S2340L but just has an overdrive for response time/ghosting and, you know, the package itself.

so yea i dont know man, i guess u2312hm more for gaming and s2340l for viewing experience? I really dont know, i mean i dont notice ghosting or anything like that in anything. I try to run like youtube videos of high paced games like SC2 and OSU and I dont notice ghosting at all in either monitor. Really I guess the S2340L is just better since it's neglible ghosting/lag anyways, even if the u2312hm is 'better' (maybe its just overkill) since it's slightly more vibrant. I mean images just look a bit better on the S2340L. Just a little bit better, but it's there.

But I mean $120 for the h236hl is definitely cheaper.

but the stand for the u2312hm, holy cow its way better. It's like a $60 stand on the monitor, i mean it's really way better than the crappy stands on basically every other ips i've seen.

I never said price was a factor, the U2312HM is ~$150 at microcenter refurb, that's where I've gotten mine and had no problem. I'd say $30 gap isn't much for a superior monitor. Not saying u2312hm is superior, but I would be okay paying $30 more from 120 to 150 for a better monitor, if that was the case.

i guess what im trying to say is the u2312hm, and s2340l, and i presume the h236hl (which i imagine is just the s2340l but slightly better due to overdrive), both seem like really solid monitors and can't really go wrong with either and each has it's strengths and weaknesses that, if you're like me and aren't really sensitive to things like glossy, guess makes hard to figure which to get. Really wish just a u23112hm existed that was glossy, maybe. It's like all these monitors are awesome, but also all monitors are just slightly imperfect in ways that don't even cost more to fix.

Walmart sells a lot of things, like the 7950 and corsair and all sorts of stuff. You really aren't providing anything more than troll answers here dude, just saying 'its for poor people'. Please, if you can give me any reason for why I should spend more money, I'm all ears. Tell me a better alternative.
I'm just trying to get the best monitor I can for under 200 here, seems like this h236 for 120 is it but I'm not sure. Guess will just find out by side by side...

Did you not at all read passed the first sentence or what?

I said it's a great monitor for that price...It cost cheap, you'll get 1080 res and minimal features. Cheap is CHEAP! That's what its for. For $130 I specifically said is good, even though it's 1080, half a year ago a regular 23" costs the same price, sometimes more.

I'd say its a good deal. I kinda want one myself especially since its glass and not plastic but I wont be able to use it for a few months and by that time another monitor may be a better choice..

you make it sound like theres no difference between any of the 1080 100-200 monitors, and that isn't true. I get it's good, I'm looking for best-in-class here.

I dont know about that. I mean of course, wait until you use to buy, as a new deal every week better than the last, but I would imagine the h236 and u2312hm and even s2340l will still be the top contenders for the next year, maybe 2. New monitors always super pricey and i dunno, such a mix of features that one what is well rounded isn't common. I dont know why, manufacturers insist on crappy AG coatings or bad overdrive or weak stands when the core panel is pretty much the exact same thing on all of them.

Got this monitor and set it up, been using it for an hour or so. It's really great - BRIGHT out of the box but easily sorted. So far the only complaint I have is that the screen doesn't extend all the way to the edges - it leaves a bunch of space that is pretty similar to a normal bezel, so the bezel itself is thin, but you don't get a lot of space you should - I estimate close to 1CM of space. This applies to the top, and sides. Other than that though it looks GREAT - everything is vivid and crisp and clear. Tempted to get a second one almost hahaha. To bve fair I did upgrade from a cheap ASUS 19" (the one in my sig) from 3 years ago but still.

It overclocks to 75 hz as well - just go to nvidia control panel create custom resolution type in 75 leave it on auto - done.

i bought that same monitor for my parents - and OC'd it to 75hz, it wont go above that tho

Do you need nvidia to do this? Can you do this on catalyst control center or radeonpro?

I try to set 75hz on the s2340L, and it sets to 720p, if i change it back to 1080 then it reverts back to 60hz.

Whats the benefit of 60hz? Just it displays more frames? Does any issue with like input lag or response time/ghosting?
