[VB]Microsoft’s Xbox One wins early sales battle on Black Friday

Microsoft’s Xbox One was the most popular video game console on Black Friday, according to a survey of early shoppers by shopping market research firm InfoScout.

The Xbox One video game console dominated the rankings at Walmart and Target, coming in No. 1 with a 31 percent share even though it had the highest purchase price at $499. These rankings may not hold up, but they’re they earliest indicator in a console war that will go on for years to come.

The news isn’t entirely bad for Sony as sales were evidently constrained by limited availability of its new PlayStation 4, which launched on Nov. 15, one week ahead of the Xbox One. But it does suggest that Microsoft succeeded in preparing its supply chain for a torrent of sales.

That is a lot of money invested in consoles on Friday.

I have a feeling there weren't many PS4s in stock in America as they were being released in Europe. Besides, many people who wanted the PS4 already got it with a preorder or on release day. Many more people preordered PS4s than Xbones in America.

Total number sold worldwide is the important figure we need.

COD and XBone selling in USA? Noooo way... In any case it is not worth it to buy any console right now. I'll probably get a Playstation 4 just to play the great exclusive games Sony release like Uncharted/Last of Us etc.

LOL what a dumb article, The reason xbox outsells ps4 on Black Friday is because most of the PS4 are sold out while I can still go in a buy a x1
post #6 of 209
Kind of hard to beat the xbox if the ps4 isn't on shelves due to supply as the article states.

I don't understand. Xbox fans are like Nvidia fans - willing to pay more money for less power (just like GTX 780 vs R9 290). Over the years I've noticed that Xbox people have a ridiculously blind loyalty and apparently experience pleasure from repeatedly taking it up the ass from Micro$oft. When viewing the side-by-side specs and side-by-side graphical comparisons, Xbox people just don't know how to remove their Micro$oft Shades - which they bought for $15 from the Xbox Live Marketplace btw - see reality.

If the X1 outsells the PS4, it's bad for us all. If X1 has the majority, then more developers are going to start making their titles with X1 as the lead platform and they will need to dumb-down the graphics for the X1's weaker hardware and the PS4 ports will not utilize all of the system's graphics power and the PC ports will look worse. If it were the other way around and the majority of devs made the PS4 the lead platform for their games, PC ports would look a little bit better. At least COD Ghosts was made to max out the PS4 hardware and then dumb-down for the X1... but like I said this trend could change if the X1 sells more units.

I just don't see any logical, rational reason to buy an X1. Okay, maybe Ryse, but that is literally the only reason I can think of. No, I'm sorry but Titanfall is not a system seller. I'd much rather have better graphics, a system that has more expensive components, a totally re-designed controller with a touchpad, a swap-able system drive, a slimmer/sleeker chassis, Killzone + Infamous + Naughty Dog Games, and a much more hands-off approach to DRM, all for $100 less. Sony offers Xbox fans all these thing and they STILL pay $500 for a weaker console!!

Wow you really missed the point. PS4 is strictly gaming, and there you are right. But Xbox is and has been for a while an ENTERTAINMENT CENTER. There is more hardware there than just the APU (CPU/GPU). Most of your statement is based on your opinion of Gaming titles and what YOU would look for in a system. Whereas this is your right to an opinion it in no way means all others have to share it.

For me it's simply the controller design of the PS4. I hate it.

I like both. Will likely have the Xbox first but have no qualms to having a PS4 as well. I never get this either or crap. I have all 3 last gen and most gens before that. Nintindo, Sega Genesis, 64, PS, PS2, Xbox... Never felt the need to adhere to a single console.
