First Time Breaking Down My Loop

Thread Starter
Greetings everyone,

I hope everyone enjoyed their holiday. I have been browsing around for the last couple weeks because I am getting ready to tear my loop down for cleaning and upgrading from my good ole 1100T to a 4770K. My current setup is a Raystorm RS240. My main cause for concern is trying to figure out if I have an algae bloom or if it is a combination of forgetting to rinse out the flux from the radiator and my case sitting between two windows and the tubes being discolored from that. I have read that both of those can cause it. I have a kill coil in the reservoir and I run straight distilled. The water is clear but from having a pool I know algae only clings to the sides of objects anyway.

I have ordered some of the Primochill SysPrep to clean the system with because I am nervous about running vinegar in the loop because of the acrylic reservoir and glue joints. So my plan was to purchase some Steradent as I read that works well for acrylic reservoirs but I am worried about any effects on the pump built-in to the reservoir. Will the SysPrep kill algae?

Thanks for your help and I hope this isn't a topic that has been covered a lot as I did search. I did see a post about cleaning a contaminated loop with bleach in the essential threads. I will post some pictures later today.

I've never been a fan of straight distilled, I always put in a little royal purple radiator boost to help with corrosion and bacteria/algae. I would say if you have all the parts removed, you can make a bleach/water solution and soak them in that for day. The other thing I would recommend is to take apart whatever cooling blocks you can, because even if you kill the algae it's still going to be there and can clog stuff.
