Someone help me out why my PC randomly shuts down...

my specs are listed in my signature. ALL STOCK!

Problem:
Computer randomly shuts down. No warnings. No BSOD's. Just shuts down and DOES NOT restart. Event viewers says shutdown was unexpected event6008. The shutdowns can happen once a day, twice a day. Sometimes not for over a week or so. So random and I wasn't able to reproduce the problem on my own. Shuts down at anytime whether it is idle, just playing music, or play hardcore games. However, it has NOT shut down once at all during PRIME 95 for hours.

I've done this so far:

1. Prime 95 and Intel burn tests for hours without a single shutdown.
2. Manually measure the 12v rails with multimeter during max stress and it was solid @ 12.25V
3. Memtest during start up and passed all 16G.
4. Idle is around 33c and full load in prime 95 is below 50C. I am using a huge thermaltake tower cooler with 120mm fan. NB temp is in the mid 80's. Seems normal as the 970 chipset runs hotter.
5. Prior to shutdown, the event viewer shows a ton of critical errors regarding AMD FUEL service.
6. wiped out all ATi drivers with driver cleaner and installed my old 8800GT. Still get random shutdowns from time to time.
7. Hard drive scan/test showed no errors/bad sectors.
8. Full stress test of 4870x2 (both GPU @ 100% = temp 75C). No shut down.
9. FRESH WINDOWS 7 INSTALLATION WITH ALL UPDATES including sp1
10. Changed all power management shut off to "never".

Any ideas? somehow I think it's either the PSU, motherboard an/or RAM.

===Prior to this build, my last AM2 motherboard's VRMs blew and created some nice sparks. Maybe the PSU is messed up? Accidentally shorted the PSU once, but this PSU have shortage circuit protection or whatever you call it.

===MOBO will NOT boot unless ram is down clocked to DDR1600 and only if ram is in slot 2 & 4.

=== If i can't solve this, i'm just gonna buy a new mobo. this TA970 is crap anyway. Should've spend the extra $50 for a Gigabyte mobo.

How is it shutting down? If its just shutting off immediately like you pulled the plug on it then Im going to point the finger at the power supply. If its freezing up and/or going thru the normal shutdown process then Im gonna say RAM as my next suspect. PSU is first on the list though.

no freezing. just shuts off like the plug pulled. Gonna buy a new PSU. While it still functions most of the time, there may be a glitch since those nice sparks..

Thats gotta be the power supply then. Sounds like its time for an upgrade. Make sure to get a good quality one like Seasonic, Kingwin, Antec or XFX. Corsair used to be a safe bet but their cheaper models arent really that good anymore. Get one of the TX models before they quit making them and you should be ok. Id opt for a Seasonic though just to play it safe. Rosewill Capstone is a good choice too. Theyre made by Super Flower which is easily a top tier OEM.
