Help!! Bad FPS in F.E.A.R. - Page 4

I had this problem for a short time, and I can't remember what I did to fix it.
It was just after I got my x1950 also, and was bumming me out because I had got this new card and it wasn't playing the game decently.

oh, well, guess i'm not help. I run xfire on a different machine then the one I play on myself, on the rare occasions I use it.

I also had a problem with fear stuttering a little, and I had to fix that by installing an internal audigy instead of my usb one.

I get about the same 3dmark06 as you do, and I get really decent frame rate in the game, but I didn't at first.
Under the advance computer options, I have everything set to minimum, except for World Detail, thats at Medium. I have shell casings on.
On Advance Vid card, effects section, everthing is medium, except volumetric lights density, which is minimum, but I have columetric lights off.
On the graphics part of that section,
FSSA off
Light detail Medium
shadows & soft shadows off
Texture filtering anisotropic 4x
Texture Resolution Medium
videos Max
Pixel doubling & DX shaders off
Shaders Medium

I have the res at 102xx768, and I get great fps, and it looks good.

I will try to remember what I did about my really bad stuttering/fps problem I had at first.

Oh, I haven't updated the game, oh, wait, thats what the problem was. Now I remember.

When I first installed the game, I installed the updates and then I would have the bad fps and bad stuttering.
so I reinstalled and didn't install any updates and it works no problem.

Some folks get better results patching F.E.A.R. by using each release, instead of the one huge patch install. Notice by doing that too, I escaped a lot of the problems others were experiencing with audio.

Patching is the next step I follow after installing ANY game. If any of you experiencing problems don't have version 1.08, you should patch to 1.08 right away before doing anything else. Get the FULL 1.08 patch..not 1.07-1.08 or any of those combinations.

But if there's problems, use the sequential patches. 1.0.5 caused grief with saved games; 1.0.6 was the fix for that grief (and floor drops); then 1.0.7 caused the grief of splitting retail for Combat (with a host of audio problems too).

For a 1 year-old game, it's one of the most patched!!

Wow, that sure is terrible. It may be a Logitech or soundcard driver issue. Do look for updated drivers for those items..
