Crucial Ballistix 16GB 1866, good choice?

Thread Starter
i want to upgrade my ram from 16gb to 32gb, i can either get another set of my current ram or upgrade to something else and get a whole set of 32gb ram.

i plan to upgrade to a 780ti or 290x ASAP(waiting for non-ref), everything else is my sig rig.

is my current ram (Crucial Ballistix 16GB 1866) a good choice for me? i game, use solidworks(3d modeling), and eclipse, so ram is being heavily used. i don't really have any issue in spending ~400$ on better ram if it has a significant difference.

so, get another set of Ballistix ? or look for better ram?

and yes, i overclock EVERYTHING to its limits.

Those are some good timings stock. What is the voltage of the dimms and are they XMP ready?

2 things:

1.i thought it was a big NO-NO to run ram past 1.575v with ivy bridge?

2. do you have 2 or 4 sticks for that 2133 OC?

i think the passing 1.575v thing is referring to RAM that's stock voltage is 1.5v
some ram comes with a stock voltage of 1.65v like this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233401

you already have pretty good RAM BTW. i don't think you will see much improvement spending another $400 on all new memory so i'd just get another set of what you already have smile.gif

good point, but i'm canadian, we get raped on everything compared to USA prices.

went to BH, cost the same amount as newegg.ca because of customs, but newegg.ca ran out and had to go to BH.

cant wait to see only 1/4 of my ram usage being filled in task manager with 8GB being used.
