Advice for upgrading the Lady's machine

My ol lady is interested in Playing some BF4 with me.

We play TF2 on the occasion but she seemed intrigued at BF4. Unfortunately shes running my OLD E8500 C2D rig. (E8500, 4GB DDR2 800, 9800GT, EVGA 780i (775 socket))

It looks like it's time to put the ol' girl out to pasture as she(the PC) is screaming when trying to run BF4 at low res all low settings.

I need to upgrade her machine to cope. New Mobo,CPU , GPU, RAM. The current powersupply should be suffiecient for anything.

I debating on if I should get a R290 and give the lady my current 680.

What might you chaps recommend? Budget is a concern of course. Probably just need to run at all low setting and get a solid 60 FPS at 1440x900. my 680 of course would be overkill for her.

What type of a budget are you looking at?

OP invest in a FX-6300, Gigabyte 970 AM3+, ASUS R9 270 DCII and 8GB DDR3.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121823

Total Cost - USD 460

with both next gen consoles having 8 cores its better to go for atleast 6 cores. the latest engines like frostbite 3 and cryengine 3 scale to 8 threads. BF4 will play very well on R9 270. you can play at 40 fps maxed out and 50+ fps without MSAA. you can also overclock to 1050 - 1100 mhz and get R9 270X performance.

This seems reasonable, since I really don't do anything in my PC anymore other than game and use it for my plex server how well do games like BF4 run on a 6 core amd vs say my 2500k

Does the 2500s IPC still bring it ahead of the 6 core or does the highly multithreaded nature if BF4 make it a worthy contender?

Also I have a Microcenter near me so that will help in the CPU MobO combo price area. They don't have jack for GpUs though

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8573372&Sku= I am not a fan of MIR but this is a pretty good deal after the rebates $274

they also have a 3470K deal as well http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=8571009&CatId=31 ($394 MIR)

The most bang for your buck would be the 274 option giving you some room for GPU.

Those don't have the GPU which would be an extra $200+ on top.

I only need CPU, GPU, RAM, MOBO I have a case and PSU.

Thanks for the input though thumb.gif

What do you folks think about this setup?

OP don't compromise on the motherboard. get the gigabyte 970. this motherboard is perfect for overclocking the cpu. in future when you have the money you can buy a good cpu cooler like coolermaster hyper 212 plus and overclock the cpu to 4.5+ ghz.
