Battlefield 4 and Windows 8.1

Thread Starter
Hi All,

After loads of reading and reading and reading............. I put my micro stutter issu'e in BF4 down to running windows 7 and then though moving to 8.1 would be worth a go.

Just before I go into detail the issue I was having was my game would reports between 40-60 fps on ultra 1080 and would feel smoth but every now and then I would get a stutter but my FPS was always above 40??? Very confussing....

I never i though changin OS would help at all and if it did I though it wouldnt be much differnace.

Wow was I wrong, I installed 8.1 downloaded BF4 made sure had latest driver's etc and now I have no stutter and my FPS is rock solid (58-60) in Single player and never goes below 50 in Multiplayer, this is at Ultra 1080.

I only run one single 7950 so I am really happy with this now and wanted to share with everyone becuase if your like me and just cant see it making a diffrence hopefully your try now :-)

Also just to add I am a Window 7 fan and hated Window 8 but this 8.1 is good.

I went from 7 to 8.1 my self, and really happy with the switch for BF4. Performance is much better overall.
With ClassicShell the pesky 8 menu is gone, and a 7 start menu is back smile.gif

I am sooooooooo tempted to pull the trigger and buy Windows 8.1 for this exact reason people have been reporting. I used to really dislike the idea of Windows 8 but now that you can boot straight to desktop in 8.1 and install classic shell to have the start menu back I don't really see a lot of downsides to getting Windows 8.1

+Faster boot and shutdown times
+Smaller footprint
+It would appear that some games such as BF4 run better on Windows 8.1

-Reports of severe mouse lag in lots of games while running Windows 8
-Not all programs/games are compatible yet or never will be with Windows
- No areo (which I like)
-Have libraries been removed? as I like this feature in Win 7 a lot.

Before BF4 I only appreciated my Windows 8.1 upgrade from W7 because I paid $30 for it in January when it was Windows 8, but now after Windows 8.1 I am really glad I pulled the trigger then.

No libraries are still there. Yeah I really like 8.1 too and not just the performance increases...even Metro is kinda cool too just as something new to play with and look at. Some apps like Weather are super cool and useful. Man it boots in a flash as well. Overclock testing is less cumbersome and time consuming.

Honeslty if anyone is a bit worried about making the move just get the 90 day trial from Microsoft website and then you can see for yourself.

I have only see improvments from making the move, its helped all games I play as well.

I hated windows 8 before but 8.1 is the way forward!

Yes and you can make custom ones too and such I believe (maybe could under 7 too; not sure). A quick Google will fill you in.
