Inching closer to that 16k graphics score mark. Starting to know the card a little better.....I'll get it there. I'm wondering if updating to Windows 10 would help. 8.1 really does suck.....

Does it help the AMD cards? I know when I went to Windows 10 with my 970, the graphics score jumped 200 points.... I rolled back to 8.1, because I was having issues with my business software.... I'll probably do dual boot if I do it again....I'm not a fan of 10. Not yet, anyway....too many little annoying bugs for me.

I think it does. Probably 100-200 point. Enough to break 16K lol.

Hi,

I have problems to overclock memory

I can run it at 1600MHz on Valley or Heaven, but as soon as i reboot pc i have weird things on windows desktop (that i don't have if i change freq later).

I actualy have Sapphire R9 290 Tri-x (def freq 957MHz / 1250MHz) with Vapor-X bios (1030MHz / 1400MHz) and my overclock is +100mV +15% 1100MHz / 1400MHz

Any idea on what to do to fix this problem ?

Anyone can explain why R9 290 OCed hangs @ 60C but is fine with anything under? Does not matter what OC or even stock but its hard to hit that temp with stock? This happens in BF4.

Did you monitor voltage after reboot? It's likely the voltage was reset after reboot causing the issue.

It's likely the overclock is not totally stable. The memory controller do have hardware error-correction capability. My theory is that when operating temperature increases, irreparable errors may occur which may explain the hangs. When I play GTA V with my "for-sure" stable clock 1100/1500, I didn't get any hangs even though temp go as high as low 70s Celsius (ambient is in mid 30s Celsius & I didn't turn on A/C). Voltage also play a role too I think. Some Hawaii cards do not like high voltage though & this behavior may only show up when operating temperature increase to a certain point.

Only using +50mV. Witcher 3 for example did not crash even 63C. Really frustrated with these cards.

Well, you may be right, seems that even if "apply OC on startup" is not checked in msi AB, frequency remains the same as when you shut down computer but voltages are reset.

When i check it, i still have the lines or even moving screen that prevents from using mouse, but only during few seconds, may be there should be a way to force AB to apply settings faster ? (if i set 1600MHz i have a black screen)
Or should i force constant voltages ?

Also, if i could access 2d/3d profils in AB i think i would completly fix if, but i guess it is not avalaible for R9 290 ?
