Disable all but 2 cores and oc the crap out of it.....
post #492 of 586
No need to disable cores this chip is good for oc

For Firestrike you wouldn't want to disable cores, but for Valley and Heaven, getting a little more overclock out of 2 cores would be beneficial. Unigine only uses 2 threads.....

Explain "vdroop", please? Tell me why it happens.... Also, how do you work around it?

Now tell me, if dropping from 1.443v to 1.283v while under load during benchmark runs would be considered "normal", or if that's excessive. Seems rather excessive to me......

In short, to prevent overshoot. Below article will be able to help you understand why it's important.

That vdroop is more than I have ever seen on 290 I think. I believe similar to 390 vdroop from the limited testing I did.

Part of it could be that my PSU was starting to shoot craps.....new one is on it's way.

Another part could be that my cables are extremely long. Going from the bottom of one Core X9, to the top of another....voltage loss in extensions, maybe....so I'm having a set of cables made with heavier gauge wire.

Hopefully the combination of the two things will help power delivery.

Thanks for the link, btw. I'll give it a read.

I wonder why I don't see it in the NVIDIA GPUs? They put hardware limits on their cards, though, so....could that be the reason?

Turns out my HIS 290 can do 1200/1700 @ +200mV
but the core would get to 82oC aio watercooled and consumes wayyyy too much power

so I guess I'm dialing back to 1040/1350 @ -31mV for the sake of temps and energy saving mad.gif

//or should I stay at 1150/1600 @ +100mV?

Just checked my card's ASIC: 83.1% is that good?

every +100mV is like +100W from the wall.
