Hey, welcome to OCN. We have the same card. MSI R9 290 with Elpida. Got this at launch and still going strong. I keep it at stock. It only needs additional VDDC at 1170 core during benching but i got it watered.

Same Bios too . . .

Benched it all the way to 1330 core at one point.

my sappire tri x black screens and i have to remove and reinstall the drivers for it to come back only to go out every other week. I remove the drivers with the AMD tool as well just to be sure but the problem persists. With the tri xx overclocking tool i use to overclock i'm at 1150 core clock and 1400 mem clock +180mv with no problems or artifacts, it does touch 90c rarely but that shouldn't cause it not to work anymore without removing/reinstalling drivers. What is going on here? Is this typical? How do i stop it? Would not overclocking anymore fix it? The only reason i got this card is because of its OC capabilities... typer.gif

I would try to ease back the overclock. Also try it at stock for a little while and if you don't get the black screens then it's most likely the overclock. I've had the same problem with mine (same Tri-x). Also you should be able to keep it below 90c if you have decent ventilation in your case. I would check your airflow and maybe add a fan or two if you can. And try to keep it between 80-90 max. 94 is the thermal limit I believe.

Also what are the situations where it's giving you the black screen? Is it gaming? Web surfing? Youtube? Watching Video? Just sittin around? Knowing this will help as well.
