Possible to hardwire usb cable to cooler master keyboard?

Thread Starter
I have a cm quickfire tk keyboard(blues if it matters) and the usb port on the key board has had the the little black plastic piece in the middle break off along with 2 of the metal pins inside. I sliced open the usb cable and it has 4 wires. Is it possible to by pass the broken usb port on the keyboard and solder the 4 usb cable wires to the little board that attaches the port to the keyboard or just tie the 4 pieces of wire together and attach it straight to the key board?

Also, so no one is to concerned, I just purchased a cm quick fire tk with reds and took delivery today. I am typing on it as I speak. I think I might actually like this better than the blues. It has a little bit of a click as I bottom out, I haven't gamed on it yet, but that's coming up in a little bit.

Thanks for any help anybody can give me.

I don't have a tk ( though an XT and QFR ) and on the QFR at least, you can replace the connection board, or hardwire around it.

pretty much you need to go on geekhack and find someone who makes custom cables.

or if you know what you're doing, you can just splice like you've already done, and solder the wires onto the board itself. it should work.

if you are not bothered to do that, contact CM and see about an RMA

Also check out this thread here, lots of info about mech keys.

its super easy to do.there should be a small wire connecting the main pcb to the micro usb jack, and basically cut the end of the cables and solder them together. done.

It worked!! A little solder a little electrical tape and some yellow duct tape and it's good as new.

Thanks

glad it worked out.

( though while you were at it you should have sleeved your cable, painted your case, lubed and swapped springs in the switches, change a few LED's, get some PBT keycaps, etc )

or you're just smart enough to not dive into the money pit of modding keyboards. I'm so poor.
