The Starbound Thread. Information and Discussion. - Page 3

Game is too buggy and unbalanced. Even when playing on a system which can easily max out BF3, I'm getting 20 FPS on the lowest zoom settings; unacceptable for combat and general gameplay. Also, the early game is frustratingly difficult. If you die during the night, you're finished until morning. For example, just finished making a little hut (couldn't find one to steal), died for absolutely no reason (some white fog killed me), then couldn't for the life of me return to hut because every damn monster could 3-shot me. I had to wait until morning to get back to the hut, in which point I had become fed up of the game. I prefer Terraria in every single way imaginable, at least until Starbound becomes stable.

The white fog is your character freezing to death. Campfires solve that problem.

Im really enjoying the game thus far. Havent gotten nearly as far but spelunking is very fun, as is hunting everything in my way. A winter biome makes surviving a challenge at night.

I retract almost every statement I made. While it is difficult to get your bearings, get slightly lucky in the beginning and you'll have an awesome time. As of today, I've put 20 hours into the game and I've enjoyed each second. If anyone wants to play MP:

Well they just released another update for the beta for bug testing and balance testing today.

Get cracking on a new character and wipe your planets to experience it to the fullest!

Here are my tips:

Get a stone pickaxe and axe as your first items, disregard the bow and go for a hunting knife as it yields more meat/leather.

As soon as you get a wooden crafting table get a loom and make a suit out of leather and skip the pants and headgear, this will eliminate the cold and prevent you from placing a campfire/torches just to stay warm.

For the human race, get farming on wheat and start stock-piling bread and raw meat to make burgers, burgers satisfies hunger and fills HP VERY fast.

So far 90 hours into the game (25% AFK Sleeping waiting for wheat to grow) and got to L10 Impervium set. So far so good, can't wait to play the final 1.0v version.

OT: Terraria is also getting a massive update for the holiday season as well.

I may not be able to resist this game for much longer...

But, I wonder if a massive modding community will ever rise around this game like Minecraft. MC was fun and all out of the box, but run with big, organized mod packs like DNS or FTB, and it turns into something truly amazing... That didn't happen with Terraria, but I hope it happens with Starmade.

I got to lvl. 10 Impervium within the first 20 hours. Also got probably the highest DPS weapon in the whole game (1500-ish * 10) while exploring a X sector planet
