[Build Log] Gaming Computer for 2014

Hey guys so the last time I had built a Gaming Rig was back in 2012 when I was still in high school. Now i'm off at college studying Information Technology and its time for a new build!

First i'll start off with a few pictures of the old rig.

Old Rig Specifications:
ASUS M5A97 Motherboard
AMD Phenom x2 (Unlocked to x4 and OC'd to 4.0GHz)
2x4GB Patriot Viper RAM DDR3 1600mhz
HIS Radeon HD 6790 1GB
Raidmax 630watt Modular PSU
1TB Seagate Barracuda

For my new rig i am going with Intel instead of AMD. Im guessing this build would go in the budget build category since total on the rig is sub $1000, im at about $600 right now.

New Rig Specifications:
Thermaltake Commander Case
MSI H87-G43 1150 Motherboard
Intel Core i3-4330 CPU
G.Skill Ares Series (2x4GB) 1600MHz RAM
ASUS Radeon HD 7870 DC2-2GD5-V2 Graphics Card
Corsair CX500 Watt Power Supply
ASUS DVD Drive
1TB Seagate Barracuda
CoolerMaster Hyper N520 CPU Cooler

I have everything ordered and it all is currently on a FedEx or UPS Truck coming to my apartment now. The Case, PSU, and GPU will be here today so i will be putting my Mini ITX Board with a pentium G850 and 4Gb Ram in it later today until i get the rest here in a few weeks. I will post pictures and updates tonight as soon as the items arrive!

Yeah i'll probably be doing that! Would you recommend a Rosewill Stallion Series RD 600 Watt?

EDIT: The CPU will never be overclocked since it is a Core i3. But the 7870 most definately will be overclocked.... To its limit!

Or maybe even this one?

I think the 600watt would be better since it is a single 12v rail

How much money do you have left for the PSU?

None. Haha I'm a broke college student. I'm just going to stick with the cx500 for now till I can buy a nicer PSU. I just won't overclock my card until then.

Got the card in my case with the cx500. That mini-ITX board is temporary. Will be getting the MSI board and a core i3 soon! yhu7epa8.jpg
