...no, it might as well be a small piece that is tightly stuck in "the big whole" with zero "gaps" around it (wait, that's what plugs are made to do), making it difficult to nearly impossible for you to insert tweezers or whatever to pull it out. You want to "dig into it" with your Xacto, sure, maybe it is possible.

But don't treat the whole thing as an "aha moment" that you had as soon as you saw the badly designed "weak point location", while probably the designers of the most universally spread digital protocol in the world have spend a few years developing the plug for.

Allow for the possibility that some people trained with more information & knowledge than you and I have, were called to make these pretty important decisions, and they came up with something that wasn't merely an educated guess, but probably the product of lab testing more than a couple of design solutions.

You know what? If there was a force behind all things IT related I would ask it...

Why is the natural twist of a cable always opposite of what it needs to be to plug it in?

This doesn't happen so much with USB cables since they don't really have a natural twist to them...but a SATA cable? A DVI-D cable? Seem like I am always twisting them against their "will" to plug them in. All these other cables are the ones that need this kind of an end on them. I think USB is fine.

sata cables are the worst about this.
and then you pry and kinda force them in place, only to expect them to come undone from movement or vibrations due to all the tension.

But USB cables were our sole access to the fourth dimension! Now what are going to do?!

Very very frightening me~

Yup. Lightning is just a (fantastic) proprietary USB-based interface. Nothing special whatsoever about it.

This was in the thread that got locked for repost, but it must be here as well:

I generally tend to try one way, then flip it over, still wrong. Then I flip it back, just to discover im going into my Ethernet jack.

Is there a fix for THAT?

For me, it's always the eSata that I try to plug USBs into. Doesn't help that they're actually adjacent to USB 3.0 plugs on my particular motherboard, with the same orientation.

LOL, USB ports are a pain! Especially in the dark! They should have a light that omits from the end to make connection easier.

I don't see a problem with that. tongue.gif

Although I have attempted to do that before. Granted, I was just trying to jam cables in holes while not looking at the I/O panel at all, so that was probably part of the problem.
