Switchable Graphics

Thread Starter
I just bought a new HP ProBook 4540s. The specs for it are at the bottom. It has the integrated graphics card and it has the separate radeon one. When I run "dxdiag" it only shows the Intel HD Graphics 4000. I asked and they told me that the graphic cards switch by themselves when I run a game. I found out when i right click on the desktop, there is a switchable graphics option and you can pick what each application uses, "power saving" or "high performance". I've tried playing Prototype 2 on both and run fraps on it. At first, I got around 10fps with power saving and 12-13 fps on high performance. I read online and it said I have to have my power plugged in so I did and I got around 21 fps on high performance and it did seem it was running a lot smoother.

I just want to make sure that it does have the AMD Radeon graphics card and that it is running when I play games on it. Is there any other way of finding out? FPS increased by 10 so I'm guessing it did, but I just want to be sure.

System specs:

i5 3230M 2.6GHz
8GM RAM
Windows 7
Intel HD Graphics 4000/ AMD Radeon 7650M

Switchable graphics can be quiet annoying. Always make sure the the drivers are up-to-date for both the intel and AMD graphics, make sure the power settings are set to the maximum or high performance and you will enjoy your gaming or ....

For even higher demanding of the graphics card especially the AMD which sets to be the main graphics in power when specs are at high performance you can overclock it as high as it can get.
