780 or 290x? - Page 6

Thread Starter
At this point, a 780TI and a non-reference 290X are within $30 of each other, sometimes the exact same price.

I have plenty of money for either, just really debating on which.

Think I might go 780TI SC, i can't find any reviews of non-reference 290's for reference.

Any final suggestions? I'm a slow buyer, so feel free to offer you 2c smile.gif

I just sold my reference 290X and need to get a replacement through Amazon Next Day shipping before I ship my 290X.

I really want to get an ASUS R9 290X DCII, but I don't know when they'll be possible and if they'll be anywhere near MSRP. If I can get either the DCII or SAPPHIRE Tri-X for $650 or less, I'll get two for CrossFire.

However, since I don't have another graphics card laying around to handle the interim period between selling my reference 290X and getting one or both aftermarket 290X's, I'm going to buy a GTX 780 from Amazon, and return it after a few weeks.

So, I need to figure out which one I should get. Also, if it would be a better idea to just get two GTX 780's instead of 290X's, I'd be willing to do so.

I'm debating between the EVGA GTX 780 Classified, ASUS GTX 780 DCII, and the MSI GTX 780 Lightening. Obviously, the Classified seems to be the fastest, but it's also the priciest. Would two SLI GTX 780 Classified's be better than two XFire'd aftermarket 290X's? What about two SLI GTX 780 Ti DCII's -- how much better would they perform over the 290X's, or GTX 780 Classified's?

Keep in mind, I seriously dislike the VRM issues with the 290X. I did not like how hot they would get, even when water-cooled with a NZXT Kraken G10/X40.

I appreciate any input, I'm sure everyone knows how I'm feeling!
