[shopBLT] AMD A10-7850K and A10-7700K prices leaked - Page 16

Microcenter has their 7700k @ $159.99 and 7850k @ $179.99
post #152 of 197
I find it odd that most sites don't have it listed already, maybe later today?

Yeah but since it's microcenter everything is priced low. Regular price says $199.

I wonder if these will sell well. Sure, the GPU performance seems to be good, but the CPU on the A10-7850K seems to perform at A10-6700 levels if I'm not mistaken, right ? How big of a market is there for GPU centric APUs in this price range ?

Both cpu and gpu perf/watt are great at low tdp's but high tdp desktop stinks (35w is a full kaveri at 3,1 while 95w full kaveri only runs 4,0)

Lol honestly I remember reading a post that said amd was gonna go deep into the red this year and they better start trying to stay afloat, someone responded "what are you talking about they are hoping in a submarine and bringing sales to a whole new level.

That being said if they are trying to market the 7850k for 199.99 they are either dafter then a plank of wood or just reaching the intel level of "we dont care if we rip you off give us your dollars"

You'd figure with the amd GPU boom thats going on they wouldnt be strapped for cash. Top tier APU's were suppose to come in no higher then 150 160 max. that extra 40-50 bucks better be seeable in performance or ill just go grab a 6800k from micro-center when a flash sale happens for 100 bucks.

Yeah I read the what I believe to be seeking alpha article. It was about their agreement with Global foundries but was total nonsense.

They are fabbing Kaveri there and will buy a fortune in 14nm fabs later this year. Potentially they might fab the ps4 and xbox1 apu there if they can get a cheaper node.

All that depends on the assumption that CPU performance on APUs will always remain poor, which may or may not be the case with the 7850k.

You have to remember that AMD's direction is towards HSA computing. That means their entire lineup from servers to mobile will eventually consist of APUs, and there will be no more traditional CPUs from AMD.

If HSA takes off, amd's slowest apu will be as fast or faster than intel's fastest.

It is vapor-ware right now though.

While that is true, what law is there saying that an APU has to slow in CPU functions and has to cost under $150?

The 2600k has a transistor count of 1.16 billion, while the FX-8350 has a transistor count of 1.2 billion. The 2600k has an iGPU while the FX-8350 does not, yet it gets similar multithreaded performance and vastly superior single-threaded performance.

Just because something is an APU does not mean it is low performance.
