[DS] TitanFall Will Be Playable At 4K On A Single Nvidia GTX Titan - Page 8

Although it uses the source engine, the amount of changes made to it takes it quite a lot away from what the source engine alone offers.

They've taken it from a single-threaded dx9-based 32bit engine to a multi-threaded, dx11-based 64bit engine - and as I mentioned in my edit above, I would not be surprised if the source 2 engine is based on the changes that respawn have done to the original source engine.

So it will be faster and more responsive then any game built on the original source engine.

Source engine is already multi-threaded. Though depending on which Source game you play, really defines how well multi-threaded the engine is.

You've clearly haven't ran the newer Source engine games then.

As long as the game is good gameplay wise, I don't see why it matters how good the graphics are. People continue to push such a emphasis on graphics, and that's exactly what developers are doing now days as well.

While they compromise on gameplay practically every single time. Look at BF4 for a perfect example.

I can't even get 120 fps constant on my setup in pubs in TF2 (24 player servers) and I'm using a competitive config with ragdolls and gibs disabled and DirectX 8.1 enabled. This shouldn't be the case for a game that came out in 2007...

Anyway, I have high hopes for TitanFall. Respawn are the guys who were behind Call of Duty back when CoD was actually good, so I can't wait for this. Looks like it has promise as a competitive shooter as well and should be the next game on the e-sport circuit.

I'm surprised. I get a constant 350+ with my system in TF2 on a 24 player server. No FPS config either. Just running most settings on low besides models.

Graphics < Gameplay There's a reason why people continue to play Source games like TF2/CS:GO while people who play AAA titles jump ship relatively quick. Not to mention majority of the AAA titles have absolute no chance in the competitive scene because it caters to the lowest denominator players.

Agreed, I don't see a competitive scene for this game either on the PC

The engine hasn't got that much to do with graphical quality, you do realize? It can support certain features but it's not going to automatically make your textures higher resolution or your polys have more triangles or anything...

Plus, I'd personally rather have a good game that runs at a stable FPS than a boring game that looks great and needs a fast as hell rig to max out. (eg. Crysis)

People automatically assume, because it's on the Source engine, it must look bad. The amount of work that's been done to the Source engine over the years is incredible. Not to mention, Valve has taken the steps to port the engine over so it runs on Linux.

Not to mention, majority of these newer engines like Frostbite 3.0/CryEngine 3, etc have some of the worst netcode available. Valve's Source engine has netcode that are miles better in comparison, especially at a LAN environment.

That's pretty baller and it shows that Source still has a lot to give.

BTW will it be available on Steam?

Origin only from my understanding.

These console GPUs are the equivalent of like a 570-670, games will be built around those GPU specifications like last gen.

1 game that will probably push GPUs though is Witcher 3 with all those fur settings and ubersampling maxed.

AC4 is believed to be poorly optimized, it also doesn't look spectacularly better than AC3 imo. it looks better no doubt but its not a proper next gen title like the Division etc.
I'm getting a 760 soon which is roughly onpar with a 670 and surpasses the stock 7950, I'm very interested in how it will hold up to the next generation consoles, more specifically the PS4.

Anybody know what settings Battlefield 4 PS4 runs at roughly? I know it runs at 1600x900 and looks pretty close to high settings on PC, same for AC4, anybody know?

Cant wait for Titan Fall, I'm a major mech fan and this concept looks really cool, borrowing from various concepts like Gundam etc

There seem to be a lot of people in this thread who think it's about gameplay. It's not. Saying that this game has unimpressive graphics that are inferior to BF4/Crysis 3/etc is just an (obvious) observation. It doesn't mean anything about gameplay or the relative value of graphics/gameplay.

Also, not everyone agrees that BF4 is terrible. Nor does anything guarantee that titanfall will actually be any good. Let's wait for it to release, mmmk? It certainly looks like it shares a number of similarities with other games (COD/BF4) that get hate on this forum.... namely questionable competitive play, noob-friendly everything, and consolitis.

I'm still running a 2GB HD6950 despite having upgraded to a 1440p monitor, so I really hope do hope this game will be as easy on the GPU as we're thinking it will be. I'll likely be upgrading to an R9 card in the next few months, but that's only if/when the prices drop back down.

Source engine (as implemented by Valve in Lost Coast Tech demo) does 240 fps consistently with every slider as far as it goes (including AA) on AMD 7950 at 5400x1920 resolution, which is 25% higher than 4K. Now, ofc what they get depends on what they put in there, Source engine can be upgraded with some additional stuff like any other engine, but if they aim to get good FPS at 4K on titan I'm sure they can achieve that. Although I would expect the game be playable even on last gen upper end cards on 4K, perhaps with minor tweaking of settings, like dropping AA or limiting bloom and motion blur (which I dont like personallty anyway). Not that I would be getting this game as it does not seem to be exactly my style can of worms.

dmasteR, your rebuttal is awesome!

I see that no-one points out that Titanfall is a game by Respawn, whose founders are Jason West and Vince Zampella, creators of CoD4 and Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Their games are defined by silky smooth gameplay and really fantastic optimization. They also have a compelling storyline and immersive atmosphere. I'm expecting Titanfall to be a similar experience.

It looks like its amazing to play, I can't wait to give it a try!

I seriously didn't know that it was using the Source engine, it looks really good! I'm so glad they chose to go 64-bit and DX11, more games should do the same. 32-bit started showing its age a while back. Most gaming rigs worth their salt use either Windows 7 x64 or Windows 8 x64 so I guess the time is ripe to go all out 64-bit.

I'm really amped for Titanfall! biggrin.gif
