I have a Dell XPS 720 with a Core 2 Quad Q9550 in it running at stick 2.8 ghz. When trying to get this processor to work in this PC (needed to find a specific bios update I believe) I recall seeing something about a BSEL mod, or something like that, involving shorting a couple pins but I can't see anything about that relating to this processor.
I have a Geforce GTX 660 OC (the gigabyte one) that I bought because I thought it would help a lot but it didn't help as much as I thought it would. The old video card was the bottleneck before but now it's my CPU. The game runs at around 80% CPU usage but my video card barely notices, and other people with the same video card on i5 processors get way higher FPS so I figure maybe overclocking can help, though I'm not sure, and the BIOS option is greyed out since I don't have a core 2 extreme.
So, can I overclock this system with this CPU at all? And, would it make much of a difference do you think, going from 2.8 to say, 3.4ghz or so? I came across something once about overclocking the E0 revision up to 4ghz but sadly I have the C1 revision
