[The Verge] Digital Storm's first Steam Machine will be a $1,469 gaming PC - Page 12

You really are insufferable. Please by all means purchase the ibuypower system. My point is if you buy a gaming PC, you can either compromise with an AMD APU with a 270 which will force you play AAA titles on low or skip out on them altogether, or you could pay more money and play everything with high settings. That is what the digital storm system allows you to do. You never have to compromise, lower resolutions, or play at absurdly low settings.

Such is the nature of the gaming PC. If you want a great gaming experience with the best graphics at 1080p or higher, it costs money. Or you can go cheap. With an AMD APU. And you get what you pay for, lower resolutions, lower image quality, which is not what I want in a gaming PC. rolleyes.gif If I wanted low image quality and low resolution nonsense i'd just get a PS4 and call it a day. Maybe you should look into a PS4. Or an xbox 360. Sounds like it would be right up your alley.

Why waste 500$ on a system that forces you to not play certain AAA titles (due to low framerates) or having to turn the settings down in practically every game. Why? I'd rather just get a PS4. I can't see the 500$ ibuypower system being much more than a glorified HTPC that I can watch Netflix on.

The digital storm system isn't intended for that demographic. It is intended for those who wants a great PC gaming experience, with the dials turned up to 11. thumb.gif Unfortunately, that does cost more money on the PC side of things. But like I said. Look at the specs of the Digital Storm system. Completely reasonable price for the hardware you get. IMO. I'm a DIY'er by heart but if I was just wanted to buy a new system? It would be a great gaming PC to buy. It isn't for everyone. IT was never intended to be for everyone, and it is NOT intended to be a PS4 competitor. What it is , is a darn fine gaming PC.

Come on dude. From what i've read, It has a GTX 780 (with an option for Titan) and a core Haswell CPU. It's going to be a sick machine. Sure, the DIY'ers will build their own thing, but for someone on the market that doesn't do DIY and wants a true high end gaming rig. You can't really beat that at 1400$ or so. Just IMO.

You dont understand. If there is a new wave of people jumping to PC gaming it will not be $500 + systems. Also PC its not about playing latest AAA tittles maxed out. You can go much more with a PC right now even if its 1/3rd the performance for X1 and PS4. The PC carries huge library of games and cheap steam games. PS4/X1 have some games and will have some more next year.

Never mind, you seem to skip all my points and just keep repeating "more money means more graphics" which I said I'm well aware of. Geeze it is like I'm talking to a wall doh.gif

I'm done arguing with you, please actually read and respond to what I said besides just saying "more res and graphics is more fun". The point I was trying to make is that cheap steam machines aren't garbage as they are beneficial to pc gaming as a whole as they bring more people into pc gaming and more to the table gaming wise. There I even bolded it for you this time.

Now go preach to someone else how gaming on the cheap isn't any fun, because I really don't care thumb.gif

I don’t get the tight fisted PC poverty race fighting against a costly pre-built ? is it because they cant afford it ? Some people can and should be allowed to buy a pre-built without being made to feel like a well healed loser

PC's are expensive in relation to a console but they are a PC which means they can do so much more.

IF you just want to game averagely with noobs and nothing else then either buy a cheap Console (*not that cheap) or a Budget Steam Box and a copy of COD

Goodbye

If you are referring to me above, I'm not fighting the prebuilt(i love digital storm anything), I'm just annoyed at this guy's ignorance to the point of the cheaper steam machines, and that graphics aren't everything thumb.gif

I can thing of 2 reason people buy Consoles.

1) They are cheap or cheaper then PC
2) They dont want to build a PC and pre-build gaming system are very expensive.

Don't forget exclusivity. If you wanted to play Halo 3, it was the 360 or nothing.

no, no

Just have always scratched my head in confusion when people called out pre-builts both desktops or laptops.

The reasons are simple .. the more people pc the merrier it is for everyone as the community grows and investors take the time to fund projects. If there were no pre-builts sold ever over the last decade to (perhaps slightly naive) kids then would there be as much as a thriving gaming scene now for the rest of us tight arses to enjoy?

we need those idiots man!

I joke tongue.gif

That mostly why PC gamers buy Consoles.

Yet the difference between my FX-4170 and i5 3570k amounts to nothing in most games. My FX was slower than your typical Richland overall due to only hitting 4.5Ghz as opposed to the 5Ghz average for Richland, let alone Kaveri.

The problem they've got with your posts is that you're wrongly calling these cheap products garbage, when in reality they're just cheap...You do pay for what you get but the increase from $500 to say, $800 is far more than the increase from $800 to $1500. In most games, my girlfriends i5 and HD7850 is just as fast and equal in quality to my HD7950 despite the HD7950 being far, far faster. If I was above 1080p then it'd be different, but most people are at that or an even lower resolution.

The Steambox's aren't going to be big in the costly PC market, didn't you see how many people were saying "What's the point of this?" in PC Gaming circles when SteamOS was announced? The biggest market by far are going to be console owners who want to get the benefits of PC and console in one, with the next biggest being those of us PC gamers who want a gaming HTPC without building it most likely. Him writing off all the low-end ones as garbage is what's dumb, because that's the biggest market and it'll benefit even those of us with GTX Titan TriFire and 3960X's and the like due to increased PC support in general.
