Sweet I was debating getting another DCU II 7970 for christmas or my birthday in February. Now I can wait till my birthday cause I couldn't stand messed up xfire. And at least by that time it might drop in price enough to pick up the waterblock for cheap.

And where are the DX9 fixes?

Honestly with next-gen available and DX11 out on Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, there's no point in even caring about DX9.

I don't know any good dx11 rts games; Starcraft 2 is dx9 and the only one with a competitive scene, an entire genre. It'll still have a vast fanbase a year from now, maybe 3-5 years from now (cant predict the future)

If you need crossfire to play StarCraft 2, or pretty much any RTS for that matter, you're doing it wrong... Especially competitively. They aren't exactly the most graphically demanding games out there.

They were supposed to release this in q4. And for eyefinity especially dx9 frame pacing is still important. Looks like they'll just try to sweep it under the rug.

Going into the future, adding support for DX9 may hurt them more than help, as more resources would go into supporting older technologies that are being superseded by DX11 more often than not.

Now OpenGL on the other hand is, as everyone knows, the de facto language on Linux. SteamOS is also a Linux-based platform. With the same forward-looking perspective, I have a pretty good idea what the AMD Catalyst team should add frame pacing support for next.

AMD Catalyst 14.1 Beta to Include Mantle and TrueAudio Runtimes
by
btarunr
Monday, January 13th 2014 01:14 Discuss (28 Comments) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
At its CES press-meet, AMD detailed the upcoming versions of Catalyst Software Suite, which will be unified to include graphics and system drivers for both discrete AMD Radeon GPUs, and integrated AMD A-Series APUs; and AMD core-logic (chipsets). The biggest takeaway from the presentation, by AMD's Terry "CatalystMaker" Makedon, is that the company will release the first Mantle and TrueAudio runtime environments with the upcoming Catalyst 14.1 Beta, due for later this month. Mantle is AMD's ambitious attempt at a 3D graphics API to rival Direct3D and OpenGL, that's optimized for its Graphics CoreNext micro-architecture; while TrueAudio is a positional audio DSP that promises to make games and movies sound more realistic.

Mantle promises "great" performance improvements in Battlefield 4, the only AAA game that we know of, to make use of the API. Mantle support was expected to be added to the game as an update around this time, but DICE' plans fell off the track with publisher EA coming down hard on the studio for shipping a game that's riddled with bugs. DICE will most likely have to fix most of its bugs for the retail DirectX 11.1 game, before EA allows it to toy with updates that add support for new and experimental APIs, let alone expansion packs.
In related news, Catalyst 14.1 Beta will introduce additions to its frame-pacing fix, that will soon support Ultra HD displays, and Eyefinity setups on non-XDMA (pre R9 290 series) GPUs.

Source

A glimpse of hope for those of still patiently waiting for the Eyefinity pacing-fix. Understandably, Amd is very busy with other things and they tend not to deliver on eta's the first few times. This slide says Q1 so, it maybe a while. Loosing patience if this drags on a couple more months tbh rolleyes.gif

I find it funny that AMD customers get the middle finger constantly like this and they apparently don't mind. I had 7970CF in 2012, been there done that. I'm long done listening to AMD's missed promises - tearing/stuttering has been an issue with eyefinity and DX9 CF for over 2 years. Heck it was a problem with 5870s also since 2009. What's another month on top of 2 years? Or 5 years in the case of the 5870? Gotta love AMD's timely software updates. But i'm sure some major AMD fan will tell me that AMD are the purveyors of all that is good and holy in the fight against the nvidia/intel axis of evil rolleyes.gif, so it's okay for AMD to do this sort of nonsense to their customers. Me? I'm glad I sold my 7970s. I do still have 5870 paperweights, but I may need to mine on them. Since gaming on them is a non starter.
