Thread Starter
Hello all and welcome to my "New Year's Resolution Project". specool.gif

Before I get started, I want to thank the OCN community for sharing their ideas and helping each other out with their rigs; you have definitely helped me answer some questions I had while reading through the logs and threads. The answers found made going from air to liquid a much easier transition than I had thought.thumb.gif

Anyways...on with the show.

Purpose of this build: For achieving the best gaming quality (both visually and in latency) and reaching the highest stable overclocks possible in CPU, GPU, and RAM. Will be recording, doing some video editing, and rendering also.

*As you can see, I still have a couple things to pick out (mainly on the peripheral department because I want see if I can try some of those things out before getting them).

*I’ll be doing this build in 3 main sections: basic build, modding, and sleeving/lighting. Mainly doing it in this order because I will not be purchasing modding supplies at the same time of the basic build.

It sucks waiting for mail and not having all the parts available.mad.gif Anyways here's what I've done while I wait for the rest of the things to come in.

  • Such great hardware wasting away in storage. Postal service needs to be faster.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • Basic strip of the 750D. Mind as well think of what to do mod wise.headscratch.gif
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • HDD are so yesteryear...5.25" bays are getting there too. No idea why they make so many HDD mounts now a days. This calls for my handy dandy dremel and drill.gunner2.gif
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • Before/after shot.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • Gotta love those warehouse workers at Amazon. Ask for 5 SP 120 Quiet Edition Double Packs and I get 3 Quiet and 2 High Performance. At least they're SP Editions and it's a good thing I'm planning to reduce their RPMs anyways.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Time for more brainstorming.

  • Went to the local computer store and got a cooler for the CPU (didn't want to test it with the stock and I needed to upgrade wife's cooler). Was tempted to get an H80/H100, but I don't see myself making another build for a bit (really going to enjoy working on this one). Time to build a workbench stable enough to test the components and format/install OS.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • Also, while cleaning out my closet of old computer things, I came across this brand new power supply I bought a while back. Time to turn it into a Test/Fill PSU for the pump.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

This should keep me busy while I wait for cooling supplies to get in and then I can actually begin with the basic build.
I'm also in the process of sketching out what my modded version will look like. I'll put them up once I'm done with placement/measurements to see what you guys think.

  • Test/Fill PSU complete. Off to set up a "stable" workbench.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • PSU guts. I kept the other connectors just in case I need to build a connector.

Thought I'd post a status update on the rig. Still waiting for parts to come in (sucks that military postal doesn't have an expedited service to receive things), otherwise there would be a lot more action in this log. Anyways, i tested the components outside the case and luckily all works well. I decided to start working on the motherboard and show you guys what I have so far.

  • Here she is the Maximus VI Extreme.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • I got the EK M6E Water Block so I can start mounting that.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • Removed original Heat sink.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • EK block installed.
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

  • I was contemplating placing the red plate from the original heat sink on, but I keep bouncing back and forth. What do you guys think? With or without?
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

That's all I have so far. I would have placed the CPU and RAM in, but I am lapping and delidding the CPU, devil.gif so that's going to have to wait for a bit. I will keep you guys posted on the progress as things come in.

My that block is sexy!

As for your question about using the red plate as an accent, I personally like the bit it adds in ^_^
