Well, stick a fork in this rumor, it's done.

With the way this has been handled, Scythe will definitely not be seeing any business from me ever again, I don't care how great a product of any kind that they might happen to come up with in the future.

Their ploy worked though, on me at least. I wound up getting 12 of the fans already thinking they may become scarce, for some as-yet-unplanned future build.

Twelve Gentle Typhoon AP-15

And then, on top of that, I just ordered 6 more yesterday from Jab-tech just minutes before the rumored demise of the Gentle Typhoon began to unravel ...

-

Oh well, they're great fans, I got them all for pretty good prices, and I will be putting them all to use eventually.

Well it doesn't exactly seem like it was a rumor. Scythe has still been in charge of marketing/selling GT's even tho they don't make em. Until somebody else steps in, it still seems like they'll be scarce. Nidec doesn't really sell fans on a consumer level AFAIK

By the way, Scythe reserves the right to the name Gentle Typhoon.
That means Nidec can?t sell the product to anybody with our label, our package, our brand and etc. attached to it.

Thank you.

Best Regards,
Hank Peng
SCYTHE, Inc.

^ That's the 'rumor' I was talking about, but that was just me trying to be nice. What it really was was a lie. I'll never believe for a minute it was just a mistake because "Mr Peng was given the wrong facts". And it was that lie specifically that started this whole charade in the first place.

Nidec has said they have 'no plans to discontinue' manufacturing the Gentle Typhoon lineup, so I doubt they'll have any trouble at all finding some way to distribute them. I see no reason to suspect that the fans will become scarce. Everywhere I look places that sell them have been increasing their stock of the fans ever since this rumor lie began. For example, FrozenCPU currently has more than 3x the number of AP-15s in stock than they had when they posted that letter from Scythe that started it all.

Yay, here's hoping for Nidec branded GT's in the near future at a lower cost.

Yup,

If anyone ever understood that a Gentle Typhoon AP15 or even a PWM AP15 would sell like wild fire under a new brand(Corsair, Phanteks, NZXT etc), they would start talking and making plans since yesterday.

Everyone understands that. There is no educated person in the field that doesn't understand that.

There are other considerations, though. Contracts, competition, financial arrangements, legal hurdles.... It's never as simple as saying "gee, I think THIS would be a good idea" and it just happening. Maybe one of the companies you mention will make it happen, maybe they won't. But if they don't, you can rest assured it won't be for lack of understanding.

True.

I don't know what Scythe would have to gain by purposely lying about it. The fans would sell regardless, there is no reason to concoct some grand scheme to try to sell something that is already always sold out. I imagine it was just misinformation.
