Unable to connect to network after hardware change - Page 2

Try removing / commenting out the config for eth0 and then rerun the above

SAme thing. if i run dhclient eth0 -v then it provides the same output that happened when i restarted the network with DHCP about how no leases were in the persisten database.

I just can't figure out what could be the issue! It doesn't seem like it should be so complex

none. i have it wired up the same way that i had it always. all the other devices work.

it's set up with a wireless router plugged into an unmanaged gigabit switch to this computer. i've tried plugging in the computer straight to the router, resetting the router, releasing the DHCP reservation, resetting the modem, and plugging this computer directly into the modem.

nothing has worked.

It is starting to sound like a driver issue.

Did you say this was working before you swapped some hardware around?
Thread Starter
yeah perfectly!

I was under the impression that it was a driver issue. my old machine had an ASRock board that allowed me to install drivers via the bios. This gigabyte board is not as feature rich and wasn't able to do that. I'm not sure which drivers to use, or how to install them via command ling (Especially without internet).

I can burn a disc or usb and mount that and install drivers without any trouble.

when i first swapped hardware, it complained about some missing ethernet driver which i installed via cd, but that didn't do anything except get rid of the warning. it didn't work before or after so i didn't think it made any difference.

can you point me to where i'd get proper drivers?

thanks.

Look on the board to find the network chip, most likely a REALTEK something (RTLXXXXXXX)...once you have the chip number, drivers can be searched for.

Before you do anything, how did you install this driver?
