Ffxiv is the opposite and even Tera has too much "invisible" boundries for my taste.

I might sound really picky but this is just something that for me, does a lot in terms of experience.

I love pwi for this reason, but the devs just killed the game and the player base is far too low imo.

Soo.. I guess I'm looking for something like pwi, but with a far better playerbase.

If someone is able to help me find a game like this, that would be great.
Or even an upcoming game, which brings me to the question: will everquest next meet my requirements?

I dunno if this floats your boat or not, but if you wanna play a game that has some challenge to it, Vindictus has some crazy high skill cap content it it.

Its like Diablo all grown up into 3D, but with less demons and more "Vikings"/Norse...kinda stuff.

Its free so its worth jsut giving it a shot.

It's just not as fun until you reach higher levels and you get significantly "fast" gear. It's hard to pull off some combos without a good chunk of aspd, at least if you like to solo things. This game becomes all about group raids once you hit 60+ and that is where it gets much more fun, but also repetitive. I haven't played it in months, but I have a somewhat maxed out Scythe Evie (20.5K+ Matk with 63 aspd). To give you an idea, most people are only at around 14~16K with 20~30+ aspd.

That said, I've never played a more challenging and action-based mmorpg such as Vindictus, so it is really worth playing if you can get to the later levels.

I doubt it will be you cup of tea, but I had to stop playing Wizardy Online because I found it too hard... And it's designed that way. Its an over the shoulder or first person dung crawler. Reasonably simple skill trees. Put it this way I couldn't finish the first dung. Only requirement is a friend to stop you punching your monitor at some of the stuff. It's also kinda empty when I played.

Everquest, or wait for Everquest Next. EQ was one of the best MMO's made. Although the graphics is very dated now and the player base isn't what it used to be. You can't have a life and play that game. It requires a lot of attention.

Coming from someone who spent an ABSURD (I don't use this term lightly) amount of time on MMO's up till I was about 21 (Ragnraok Online, Ultima Online, Silkroad Online, WOW) I strongly suggest getting out of the MMO habbit.

RTS and FPS games have more reward per minute... and seeing as how we have less time as we get older it works out better. With MMO's you have to play for long long periods of time to get the same rewarding feeling you get from other games. I can finish a game of BF4/COD4/MW2 in 10 minutes and I feel I get the same reward as I did raiding for 3 hours in WoW back in the day.

It's your call.
Just my 2c.

Guild Wars 2 has been by far my favorite MMORPG and I've played around 30 or so of them over the years. The instances in GW2 are all dungeons (occasionally a normal map is "instanced" during your personal story quest) It makes sense that they are instanced since many of the dungeons are pretty large and it allows for cross server play. I've played Tera and the gw2 world is larger with a lot more to do and a larger player base. You are pretty much bound to the ground, no flying or anything. There is swimming and you can jump around on things to get into unusual places. There are features of the game known as "jumping puzzles" that test your skin in jumping up large structures and across big gaps and often have a chest at the end containing rewards that reset daily.

If you want a really unbounded world there's a game from Sony called Dragon's Prophet and once you tame a flying dragon you can litterally go pretty much anywhere up to a specific height or hard wall boundary on edge of maps.

the problem is SoE has f'ed their player base so much that nobody is really willing to give them another try. i doubt EQ next will be anything groundbreaking. EQ was the best because it was pretty much the only game in town for a long time. others tried and failed to push them off the top till WoW stepped in. and WoW only succeeded because people were sick of how SoE is treating their players. not because it was a "better" game.

I feel the exact opposite ab out EQ Next. I played EQ for over 7 years and it was by far my favorite MMO. So I was pretty skeptical about EQ Next from the start. But from everything I've seen I think it will be really groundbreaking. The problem is there are so many bad MMOs and people have gotten so used to the state of MMOs they are very negative towards any new MMO coming out before they even give it a fair shake. It will never be the same as it was in EQ, won't feel the same etc because of nostalgia and rose colored glasses but people should give it its fair shot. I think if anyone can make a great MMO it can be SOE and it looks like they are really trying.
