The guy walks in the house and into the room I'm in, I start slashing at him with my wood cutters ax, he fell before drawing a weapon.

I now FINALLY have my first weapon which is a magnum. biggrin.gif:D:D:D

Wow this game is really fun when something actually happens. I can see it now, I'm going to be so frustrated the next time I die.

Yeah, after the first few days of play, people seemed to stop being so friendly. And yes, the frustration of dying after looting and maintaining quite a bit of stuff is heartbreaking sometimes.

If anyone has a character who's been alive for awhile, make sure to get them healthy by eating and drinking a bunch. Once you have enough food/water, it will display "healing" in the status screen, then it will display "healthy" after you're healed.

If it doesn't say either, you need more food/drink.

So far Alpha has been a funny game. Met a friend of mine around dam north from Elektro.. Suddenly 3 guys run across the road without pants biggrin.gif

Before that I died because 5 guys attacked us shouting "murder - murder -murder " on voip.. I lol'd so bad it was hard to even try to hit'em with a wrench thumb.gif

Earlier I lost all my gear at NEAF, but it was fun. This game has been totally worth it cost, even that engine sucks as bad as ARMA2

edit: typos.

Finally got geared up at the NWAF on a fairly empty server: M4, pistol, Mountain Pack, helmet, gas mask, fire axe, the whole kit and caboodle. Decide to head down to the coast to show off my new duds, but swing East so as to avoid just trecking through terrain I've already been through. Following a main road, my server connection goes red for a few seconds, and suddenly I'm teleported back a few hundred metres. Slightly disorientated, I find the road again and keep following it. 45 mins of walking later, I've run out of food and water and so finally head inland to begin the treck back South. I head in what I believe to be a Southerly direction, and after 10 mins of walking hit the edge of the map.
To my horror, I realise that when I temporarily lost my connection earlier, the server reset me facing the wrong direction! Suffering pangs of thirst and hunger, I desperately head back, and climb a small hill to try to spy out some sign of civilisation. There! Houses off in the distance. I sprint gleefully towards them, stopping at a pond to refill my canteen and drink down the sweet (probably infected) water. I reach the small town, and after finding and eating some beans I search for a road sign so I can get some idea of where I am. After cross referencing the Russian sign with an online map, I realise that I'm in Vybor, pretty much where I started from doh.gif

I had the same thing happen to me a couple times last night. Each time I had to shut down DayZ via task manager as I had absolutely no mouse/kb input once it happened. sozo.gif It was annoying as I was on a corpse run hoping for any possibility of saving gear I had. My survivor was about 24hrs of gameplay old and geared to the teeth. A few hundred rounds of ammo (by a few hundred I mean like 400-500 with x3 60round clips). Pristine silenced M4 with macgul parts save for the universal rail (for flashlight mount, loved it!). With ACOG and bipod deployed I found it extremely accurate, but I digress.

I had just ran out from NEAF after some intense firefights with a few bandits. I had some Swiss cheesed gear that needed replaced and there were a few sites up there that I wanted to check out. There is a really cool cargo ship (Rify which would make a helluva bandit camp if it wasn't so far out of the way, Incredible sniper positions) up there as well as Blunt rocks (lame) and the two lakes (wanted to go fishing!). Also... as to my previous post about helo crash sites not being in game.. I found one just east of Rify dead center between there and Willow lake! But it appeared to be a transport and not the random Hind sites full of goodies from the mod.. It had my heart racing for a moment.. Still a fun find! After playing tourist for an hour or so I decided to skip Khelm which was to the west a bit and head south toward the much larger Berezino to see if I could find some activities. I hadn't quite tried my hand at banditry so I thought "What the hell". At the least I might find some fresh spawns to feed and water. After making my way through town and seeing no activity minus a few zeds I decided to hit up the construction site to the south of town. There are usually a lot of backpack spawns there so noobs tend to run up from the south and hit it up first. Not to mention the fact that you can see the building and the crane from some distance. It makes for a pretty good vantage point but does leave you vulnerable to sniper fire from the west.. which I was about to find out. Side note: Along the way I found a Mosin and realized I can carry two primary weapons! Stoked! But what a pita.. kept forgetting I would drop it if I climbed ladders or tried to eat/drink.

After some time hanging out at the construction site I finally spotted a pantless woman running toward the building in the distance. She looked harmless so I fired off my normal warning shot and waved from my position to let her know I was there. As the player approached she rightfully questioned me about the 3 or 4 bodies littering the ground around the building. I explained they were not by my hand and that most likely they were new players that took a wrong turn at Albuquerque and fell to their demise. As she rummaged through the site I debated with myself over whether or not I should arm this player. I had a pistol and a few clips/rounds that were just taking up inventory space and I was in need of some excitement. I figured at the best I'd make someones night or die trying! When she finally met me on the top floor I offered up food and drink which she happily excepted and talked for a few about her experiences in game and explained how you can carry two primary weapons when questioned. As I tossed a can of beans on the ground I realized this was trying to push me off the roof! Ha she almost got me too! I quickly moved myself away from the edge and offered up my pistol and a few clips, 45 rounds in all. IT WAS ON! I knew she tried to push me but didn't lead on. I wondered if she'd just straight try to shoot me as soon as she had gun in hand or if she'd play coy and try to ambush me. It was the latter. She said "Alright then I'm off! Thanks a bunch for the gun." As she made for the stairwell I shifted my position and camera to get a good view in the door. She knew well I would avoid the ladders down to not lose my second primary weapon as I had just discussed with her. When she enters the stairwell I see her crouch in the corner. Not a surprise. There were a few items in there to pick up and I assumed for a moment that she was just organizing all of her newly acquired goods. But... there she sat.. for more than a couple minutes. I just wandered back and forth on the rooftop all nonchalant doing what I was doing but always keeping a close eye on her. Sure enough as my path took me toward the door I can just barely see here raise the weapon and take aim. BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! She unleashed never making her mark. "NICE TRY!" I yelled. As I see her moving down the stairs I rain down hellfire upon her. Fountains of blood!.. But she was still alive. I took up new position inside the top of the stairwell as I could barely hear her trying to chat at me from the floor below. As I make my approach I can hear her voice getting closer and fast! I take aim and her voice becomes clear.. INJUNS NEVER DIE!!!!!" As she runs past me and throws herself off of the second story stairway to her doom! LOLOL I laughed so hard.

After checking the area for hostiles that might have been alerted by her gunfire, I ran down to her corpse to gather the gun and ammo. I definitely wasn't leaving it there for her to try again. On her body... were only the two clips. "Nice try again" I thought. I gathered them up and headed up to the second floor where she had started her suicide charge. Sure enough.. there is her hoodie with the pistol inside. Snatched it up and took up a prone position right around the corner where she couldn't see me unless she came up the ladder. Either way she was dead if she returned. As I waited I fantasized about cuffing her and putting things down her throat... namely disinfectant and a few rotten fruits, possibly even a blood transfusion of the wrong type! biggrin.gif

Well.. she never returned. Personally she didn't but I'd bet that was her Mosin round that did. Note to self: even on the top floor of that building.... you're still very susceptible to sniper fire from the houses due west.... mad.gif

I've had the opposite experience of the other person who replied. ArmA 3 runs more smoothly/at a higher FPS than DayZ for me.
