There is an insane amount of negative acceleration. Try moving your mouse slowly from side to side and then whip it from side to side real fast and you'll see. There is also an insane amount of input lag cause by the mouse smoothing per default settings.

I turned mouse smoothing off and set the y axis 2 clicks higher than x axis and its bearable.

There is a button to turn on/off acceleration but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Well I got the game and so far it's pretty horrible.

I mean, am I the only one that's having more issues, glitches, and bugs with the standalone than with the mod ever? Inventory is broken, stuff is just randomly disappearing (or is in my quick switch bar but can't be selected), zombies can just freely walk through anything, zombies can hit you from 5 feet away yet you have to be so close to hit them that you have no chance of not getting damaged, etc.

Look, I know the game is in alpha. I GET THAT AND I KNOW THERE WILL BE ISSUES...but seriously...some of these issues are just inexcusable to the point that I find myself thinking "how are these problems even here? How long have they been working on the standalone now and can't even get the inventory working properly?".

Either way, despite how much I WANT to play the game I think I'm just putting it on the back burner for a couple months, at least, and will just go back to playing the mod. I mean, at least it has less issues.

Over all I'm just disappointed. Given the time that they've spent working on this, the fact that they had the mod to work off of, etc I just don't understand how the MAIN aspects of the mod (like the inventory and zombies) can be so So SO broken and messed up.

Your perception of the time it takes to develop software is completely skewed, particularly for one as complex as a persistent 3D multiplayer game.

Also, just because it was a mod does not mean that the developer picks up where they left off.

For what it's worth, I've never had an item disappear from inventory. My guess is that you don't understand it fully. If you pick up an item into your hands instead of putting it into inventory, it will be dropped when you switch what you are holding in your hands.

No...I know how the inventory works man. I just quit the game after picking up a firefighter ax only for it to literally disappear when I walked inside a building. Not in my inventory, not on the ground...just in my hands one second, gone the next.

This isn't even as bad as the M4 I had in my quick select bar that went from usable to turning all white and being unable to select it. Tried dragging it back into my inventory only for it to completely disappear.

That's my problem...alpha or not...the things that are broken, in my opinion, just simply shouldn't be broken...especially to the extent that they are. Like, what have they been doing all this time? Either way, like I said, this is just going to take a back seat for a couple months at least until they can iron out these things...things that, again, I'm just blown away and completely dumbfounded are even problems in the first place.

And remember, just because YOU aren't having problems doesn't mean that no one else is or that they're just doing stuff wrong. If the game works fine for you than CONGRATS! However, for the rest of us there are major game breaking bugs that I just don't understand how or why they're still there after all the time this game has already spent behind closed doors being played constantly.

You have to edit cfg file to get monitor refresh rate above 60hz, for those that run 60+...my documents/dayz/dayz.cfg.

I'm getting that too on my 7990, Only one GPU gets usage frown.gif Luckily I can max it out graphically and get minimum 30FPS which is playable on this game. Even forcing crossfire in Catalyst does nothing. Hopefully they add support soon.
Although I heard this game is more CPU than GPU intensive.
Still find it strange though, it's pretty much the same engine and yet it doesn't have what Arma 2 has.

I have a 660Ti and idk if its me or its slow and buggy and lag after any kinda movement. even in the main menu. How is a 660Ti running this buggy fella?
Also, got my first "Dayz has stopped running" after a minute of playing.

You have very clearly never Alpha tested a game before.

I was an alpha tester and worked on SWTOR. When I was first brought onto the project, I couldn't log in because they had only developed for AMD...Had to wait 3 weeks and I was one of their admins.

It's normal. Welcome to reality.

I said that I haven't run into this problem, and then offered a completely reasonable explanation to what I thought happened because I ran into it myself. If you don't think that's what happened to you, that's fine, I get it, I've ran into plenty of bugs, I even had it so that I couldn't switch to my M4 when I needed it most and ended up dying as a result. The difference? I don't rage quit and then come onto a forum unrelated to the game's development to complain that, *GASP* this alpha contains bugs and broken features!

The whole purpose of the alpha is so that the developer can get feedback on what is working and what isn't. Instead of giving up, why don't you report these errors on their forum and help forward the development of the game?

Hm....
So first off, I have seen and watched Dayz gameplay, which I'm referring to the mod and Arma II. This Dayz standalone is my first experience with it so this will be from a beginners POV.
I have played for some hours and come to the conclusion:
With a change in the cfg file my FPS has been much smoother, but the mouse camera movement seem so weird.
I changed the 1st/3rd person perspective on the menu but still it keeps it at 1st person. Changed this with the enter key that changed perspectives.
Game is challenging so far, with resources limited but enough so you can find them.

A negative:
Dumb annoying alerts with the "I feel thirsty" or "I feel hungry". I mean could ya decrease the amount of time you do that? I see it in the inventory menu and when my player growls.
Why can't we have a chat? I don't have a mic and now, I feel like the need for a mic for teamspeak and games like these is arising. Will probably get one tomorrow...don't know which one, will browse at microcenter, a small inconvenience for me.
Annoying zombies; how hard is it to escape them? They go through doors etc, and require tons of hits from a crowbar or something else, and beginners will frantically panic.
We can't view the map, its a black blank screen and this makes us have to either go online and look for a map or to just aimlessly search around villages. What if we wanted to go to a specific village with a waterpump or some pond?

Everyone is being douchebags, killing innocents who they clearly knew could not do anything to them. It's the community's fault.
Can there be a small tutorial? I mean yea you can look at the commands but a small tutorial option would be nice.
I don't find many bugs? Except the map one but can you guys list some bugs you've experienced?

My experience has changed from my last night's 4 minute trial that ended because of the "Dayz Has Stopped Working" to a 2 hour session with no interruptions. I like it and will experiment and play around with this. Hopefully when getting a mic I can either tell nearby people im friendly or find a random person to be friends with. I was playing and heard this fella talking to his friend(couldn't hear his friend tho) and he seemed nice.
Still mad about my pointless deaths from random ******s who think they're cool cuz they have a full army suit with a m4 and just KOS me.
